Neighbourhood
Ample shopping available, including modern grocery stores. Several highly rated restaurants within walking distance (or via a $2 Uber ride). Nearby there is a popular plaza called "Jacó Walk" with restaurants, open air music/entertainment, and a safe playground for the kids.
An amazing jungle running/hiking trail is also within walking distance.
This location is nearest the south end of the beach, which is known for beginner-friendly surfing and softer sand than the northern end of the beach. You will be beachfront, right on the beach.
Getting to my home
Jacó is about 90 minutes from the San Jose airport (SJO) via Route 27 and then Route 34. We can help set up airport transfers. There are also car services available for the trip, including Uber (we hear it's less than $70 one-way via Uber, but haven't done it personally). If you prefer to rent a car, we recommend Vamos Rent-a-car; they are reliable, friendly, and trustworthy.

Getting Around
Jacó Walk shopping center, which is effectively the town's center, is a 15 minute walk from the property. Our weekly farmer's market is a 10 min walk and the grocery store is about a 20 minute walk. Uber and Uber Eats are also available. Costa Rica also has a well-regulated taxi service.
Tour operators will pick you up from our place in a shuttle for excursions.
If you ever go to a vacation home and find yourself dreamily Googling real estate listings in the area, you will understand how we felt at Alison’s. It is shockingly close to the ocean, probably the closest we have ever stayed, and the only thing separating you from the water is a pool! Alison’s home is beautiful, well-stocked and super comfortable. But it was hard to spend much time in it with all that there was to do outside. There is a terrace where you have a great sunset view or you can walk out for your morning coffee. A surf school is a one minute walk.
But what made this exchange even more special was Alison herself and her property manager (and friend) Melisa.
They were so incredibly welcoming, hospitable, and seemed to truly care about us having a wonderful time there. If I had anything to ask or wonder about whether it was first thing in the morning or evening, both of them replied nearly instantly. Way more than I would ever expect. They were both willing to help when we had an issue with a sick kid while there, and just both felt like instant friends. This is what home exchange is all about, and we loved it from start to finish.
One thing I want to add about the area. Jaco has a bit of a reputation for being a seedy town with prostitutes. There is really only one strip that has a bit of a wild party feel. Perhaps being from amsterdam we are a little more aware of whether this is safe or not, but we did not feel in any way unsafe or compromised in the town. Actually, Alison’s place is in South Jaco, which is a bit further from the strip and has a lot of families. We went into town for the supermarket and a restaurant or two and it was fine. Beyond that, we have found this area to have the best beaches of anywhere we have been. And we adored restaurant El Punto Jacobeno near Alison’s. We had dinner there twice.
Thank you Alison and family for the great exchange!
We had such an amazing week in Jacó at Alison's place! The location of their home is fantastic with the beach right out the front and the sound of waves as you fall asleep. So much to do in the area a week wasn't long enough. Thanks so much Alison and family for opening your home to us and letting us enjoy your slice of heaven there. Pura vida!
We loved having Jessika and her family stay in our Costa Rica home. They were so easy to communicate with and left the place spotless, leaving behind delicious treats from Amsterdam! We would love to have them back anytime. Pura Vida!
Feedback for Colette·Simultaneous exchange·7 nights
We had a wonderful time at Colette's home in Puerto Morelos. The home is so cozy with plenty of space. Colette was easy to reach throughout our swap and gave some amazing recommendations of restaurants and other things to do. They live in a great gated community with easy access to everything you'd want to do in Quintana Roo.

It was such a pleasure to have Colette and her family in our home while we were at theirs. They took such good care of our place that we couldn't even tell they had been here. And we were thrilled when we were able to meet up in person while they were traveling Costa Rica. Such a sweet family and I hope to meet up again soon.
