Our home is a charming 1950s renovated single-family home in the Cologne district of Poll. It is located in a quiet residential area, only about 15-20 minutes by bike or public transport from the lively center of Cologne.
The Space
*What we love most about our home*
Our house is a cozy, lively family home with plenty of space to be together, play and relax. Our southwest-facing garden is particularly beautiful, where we can enjoy the sun until the evening hours. Despite the proximity to Cologne's city center, our home is a small green oasis of peace.
The spacious, partially covered terrace is almost an additional living room in the warmer months. In the garden there is a skateboard mini ramp, a table tennis table, a basketball hoop, a football goal, a trampoline, fruit trees, a garden shed, a pond and a small vegetable garden. There are plenty of opportunities to let off steam or simply relax on the terrace.
*The House*
On more than 120 m² of living space, spread over two floors, our house offers:
- A master bedroom with extra-wide family bed (270 cm)
- A children's room with bunk bed (140 cm wide at the bottom, approx. 90 × 155 cm at the top and therefore suitable for a younger child), desk, many children's and young adult books and LEGO
- A teenager's room with a 140 cm wide bed, sofa and workspace
- A cozy living room with large sofa and fireplace
- A spacious eat-in kitchen with a large dining table
- A games and guest room that can be separated from the living room by a curtain and has a pull-out sofa bed (160 cm wide)
- A bathroom with bath, shower and toilet upstairs and a separate guest toilet downstairs
The different sleeping options offer a lot of flexibility, especially for families or couples of friends with children.
*Equipment*
Our kitchen is well equipped, including a dishwasher, coffee machine and Thermomix. There is fast, reliable Wi-Fi, a workspace in the teenager's room and a printer if needed.
For children, LEGO, German-language children's books, games, skateboards, a hoverboard and a Tripp Trapp children's chair are available. There is also a selection of books in German and English, some also in French and Spanish.
In the basement there is a washing machine, dryer and an additional freezer available. This area is also occasionally used by our adult daughter, who lives in the separate apartment on the lower ground floor.
A private parking space is available directly at the house. By arrangement, we are also happy to provide our bicycles (two adult bikes and two children's bikes).
Our house is heated with a wood pellet heating system and has a photovoltaic system.
Guest Access
There are many stairs and different height levels indoors and outdoors, as well as unsecured stairs, so it is not suitable for people with mobility impairments or small children.
The small pond does not have a safety cover for small children; in addition, there is a passage to the neighboring property where there is an uncovered pool. Therefore, no exchange with small children who cannot yet swim is possible.
Notes
*Still good to know*
Our house is a real, individually furnished family home where people live, play and laugh - not a perfectly styled holiday home.
On the ground floor there is a separate studio apartment with its own entrance, occupied by our adult daughter and not part of the house exchange. She also uses the garden, while the living areas of the main house on the ground floor and upper floor are for the exclusive use of our guests.
Our family also includes two chickens that usually live in the front garden. During our absence, they are either cared for by our daughter or temporarily move in with a friend. If you feel like it, you are welcome to take care of them yourself by arrangement – of course, there is no obligation.
Poll is a quiet, family-friendly district on the right bank of the Rhine. Supermarkets, drugstores, bakeries, a café and several playgrounds and football pitches are within easy walking distance.
The extensive Poller Wiesen on the Rhine can be reached in about 15 minutes on foot - wonderful for walking, jogging, cycling, picnicking or simply relaxing by the water.
Cologne-Bonn Airport is about 12km away, i.e. it can be reached in about 12-25 minutes, depending on the length of traffic.
Two stops on tram line 7 are only about a five-minute walk away and offer a good connection to Cologne city centre.
Shops for daily life are within walking distance.
In addition, the bicycle is suitable for exploring the surroundings. We are happy to provide bicycles if required.
