Neighbourhood
Located in the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Armação dos Búzios, often referred to as just Búzios, is perfectly balanced between a picturesque fishing town and an elegant seaside resort. The driving distance from Rio de Janeiro to Buzios is about 108 miles / 174 km (driving time: About 2 hours, 35 minutes).
The European feel infused by the Portuguese colonization and its architecture, the narrow cobblestone streets, the long boulevard running along the coast, the rich vegetation and rugged coastline animate Búzios with the flair of a quaint seaside town.
Buzios is perhaps best known for its 23 beaches where the clear blue water kisses the verdant green jungle, and small walkable town. It sits on an 8 km peninsula that features the town and some of the more well known beaches in the area, such as: Forno, Geribá, Tartaruga, João Fernandes, João Fernandinho, Ferradura, Ferradurinha, Azeda, Azedinha, Ossos, Manguinhos, Tucuns, Brava, Amores, Armação, Foca, Olho de Boi, Caravelas, José Gonçalves, Virgens, Canto and Rasa.
Forno Beach, located just 100 steps from the house, is a small beach with calm water, amazing cliffs with cacti and rock formations. What stands out on this beach is the fine unique red sand and the sea turtles who like the protected cove.
Chairs and parasols are available for rental, and drinks can also be purchased. For the more adventurous, canoes and kayaks can be rented to help you discover the bay. Due to the calm water, Forno is an excellent place for snorkeling.
Although it is near Buzios Downtown, Praia do Forno is a nice place for the ones who want to relax and skip the crowds.

Featuring an annual food festival, Búzios enjoys a diverse and international dining scene. Even though there are numerous international options, the local food is of remarkable quality and a must-try.
As for nightlife activities, Rua das Pedras is the center of the town, featuring a large variety of stores, restaurants, clubs, bars and art galleries. Búzios peninsula boasts a vibrant nightlife, especially Rua das Pedras and Orla Bardot pulsating at the heart of the exuberant after dark bustle.
After a short 15 minute walk, you are downtown Búzios and Orla Bardot. Take a stroll along the beautiful oceanfront promenade enjoying landscapes, fishing boats, restaurants and some artistic sculptures along the way.
Within 45 minutes by car you are at Cabo Frio city.
Just two and a half hours from Rio de Janeiro.
Getting around
For those without a car, the town offers minibuses that run the length of the main street (José Bento Ribeiro Dantas Road). Outsourced vans also make the same itinerary. Taxis can be caught easily Downtown headed to any beach or destination. A run from Downtown (Rua das Pedras) to João Fernandes or Geribá beach, for example, takes less than ten minutes.Another option is to take a town tour and get to know several spots and beaches at once.
However, to better enjoy each place, the best choice is to rent a buggy or a car there because, although the town is not big, the beaches are distant from each other as well as from the main road that cuts the city and through which public transport runs.
