General Overview

Welcome to El Mirador Azul, our unique and peaceful penthouse home in Málaga.

Set at the top of a beautiful historic building in La Malagueta, our home has several terraces with wonderful views across the Mediterranean, the city and towards Gibralfaro Castle. Despite being in the heart of Málaga, it feels surprisingly peaceful and private, with plenty of outdoor space where we spend much of our time enjoying the wonderful climate.

We are just a five-minute stroll from La Malagueta beach and around 15 minutes on foot from Málaga's historic Old Town. It's a fantastic location for enjoying the best of the city, with the beach, waterfront, restaurants, shops, museums and historic sights all within easy walking distance.

Málaga is a vibrant, wonderfully walkable city, and for us this location offers the perfect combination of city life, neighbourhood life and the Mediterranean right on our doorstep.

The Space

Our building was designed by renowned Málaga architect Fernando Guerrero Strachan and is an important part of the city's architectural heritage. In 2025, the building was featured in an exhibition celebrating his work at the Museo de Málaga, and has also been displayed in 2026 as the main window photograph at Málaga's main Tourist Office!

Our home is arranged over different levels, with lots of character, two private terraces and a communal roof terrace. There are wonderful views in different directions across the Mediterranean, the Old Town and towards Gibralfaro Castle.

The real heart of our home is the large south-facing terrace off the sitting room. Filled with Mediterranean plants, it has separate areas for dining and relaxing, two large parasols for shade and an outdoor TV. We spend much of our time here, from morning coffee in the sunshine to long lunches, relaxing during the day and dinner and drinks in the evening. With views across Málaga and towards the Mediterranean, it really is an extension of our living space throughout much of the year.

Our main living space is comfortable and relaxed, with a leather sofa and large TV.

The kitchen occupies the lower half of the turret and is south-facing, with two small balconies and three windows bringing in sunshine throughout the day, as well as views down towards the sea. It is fully equipped, including a Jura coffee machine, and has a large dining table.

We have a spacious master bedroom with a king-size bed and a double-height vaulted ceiling. The en-suite bathroom is partially open to the bedroom, with a walk-in shower and separate loo, and curtains can be drawn for additional privacy. French doors open onto its own small private terrace, complete with an outdoor shower and a tiled Turkish-style bath.

There is no separate guest bedroom or additional bathroom, so our home is ideally suited to a couple.

At the very top of the apartment is the upper part of our turret, which we use as a home office. It's one of the most unusual spaces in our home and a lovely place to work or simply relax on the sofa, with views over the rooftops of Málaga. From here, there is also access to the communal roof terrace.

A mezzanine above the bedroom, reached by a spiral staircase, provides another cosy space to relax on the daybed, read a book or use the rowing machine.

This is our full-time home rather than a holiday property, so it is very well equipped with everything you need for a comfortable stay.

Guest Access

Our penthouse is on the top floor of the building and is accessed by an elevator. There is a small flight of steps from street level to reach the elevator.

We will arrange key collection with a neighbour.

The apartment itself is arranged over several levels and has a number of internal steps and staircases. The main sitting room, kitchen, bedroom and main terrace are on the principal level. The mezzanine is reached by a spiral staircase, and a further open staircase leads to the turret office and communal roof terrace.

Due to the open staircases and different levels, our home is not suitable for young children or anyone with significant mobility difficulties.

Notes

El Mirador Azul is our much-loved full-time home, and we are looking for reciprocal exchanges with other couples who feel the same way about their own homes. These do not need to be simultaneous and we are open to discussing and being flexible with dates. So if you are interested please contact us rather than reviewing the calendar.

Neighbourhood

We live in La Malagueta, a relaxed neighbourhood between the Mediterranean and Málaga's historic centre. Everything we need day-to-day is within a few minutes' walk, including supermarkets, bakeries, cafés, bars and some excellent local restaurants. La Malagueta beach is just around the corner, and the waterfront promenade is perfect for walking, running or simply heading out for a morning coffee by the sea.
From our home, it's an easy and beautiful walk to both Muelle Uno harbour and Málaga's historic Old Town. The city is wonderfully compact and walkable, and we rarely need a car. Within walking distance you'll find the Alcazaba, Roman Theatre, Cathedral, Picasso Museum, Carmen Thyssen Museum, Mercado de Atarazanas and a huge choice of restaurants, tapas bars, shops and cafés.
Málaga has become a wonderfully vibrant city while still retaining a very Spanish, Andalusian character. There's a fantastic food and cultural scene, beautiful architecture and plenty going on throughout the year, but it's also a city where everyday life happens outdoors. Long lunches, evening tapas, drinks in a sunny plaza and walks along the seafront are all part of life here.
Beyond the historic centre, there are plenty of other areas to explore on foot, by bike or public transport, from the restaurants and street art of Soho to the traditional fishing neighbourhoods and beachfront restaurants further east along the coast.
Málaga is also a great base for exploring Andalucía. Granada, Córdoba, Ronda, the white villages and the beautiful countryside of the Montes de Málaga are all possible day trips, while excellent train connections make travelling further afield very easy.
What we particularly love about our location is that you don't have to choose between a city break and a beach holiday. You can spend the morning exploring museums and historic Málaga, have lunch in the Old Town, come home for an afternoon on the terrace or at the beach, and wander back into the city for dinner in the evening.

Getting to my home

Málaga Airport is approximately a 20-minute drive from our home, and taxis are readily available directly outside the terminal.

Málaga María Zambrano, the city's main train station, is around a 10-minute drive away.

If you are arriving by car, we don't have private parking, but there are several paid public car parks nearby, including at the bullring and Muelle Uno.

Getting Around

Málaga is an extremely walkable city, and you won't need a car while staying with us. The beach is just a few minutes away on foot, and it's an easy walk along the waterfront and through Muelle Uno to the historic centre.

We walk almost everywhere, but Málaga also has an excellent public transport system, with buses throughout the city and a metro for travelling further afield. Taxis and Uber are also readily available.

The seafront cycle path runs close to our home and is a lovely way to explore further along the coast.

For trips outside Málaga, María Zambrano station has excellent rail connections, including high-speed trains to cities such as Madrid and Córdoba, as well as local trains along the Costa del Sol.
