General Overview
Three bedroom home overlooking the sunny Bay of Plenty ocean, with views to White Island - an active volcano, 22 miles out at sea.
Walking distance to shops, restaurants and the river. Four minutes drive to New Zealand’s best family friendly beach, Ohope.
Electric Vehicle and Solar, for your use which means no petrol bills for your travels.
We have a three tiered property, with a kids playground at the bottom tier, we call the Gravel Pit.
Our house has an ocean breeze in summer and gets all day sun in winter so is perfect for all seasons.
Great fishing and surfing.
Nice community.
Close to Rotorua (one hour drive), with world class mountain biking and tourism spot.
Great spot to base yourself and see the country, or relax at the beach and bush walks. The beach is Safe to swim in and also can be good for surfing, SUPing and surf casting fishing. The boating in this area is incredible - both game and bottom fishing goes off nearly all year round. The beautiful fresh water lakes are only an hour away, which also provide fun for all ages.
Whakatane is a friendly community. It’s not a place to come if you want big city lights and heaps of gigs and restaurants.
There’s a few eateries but lots of people fish and hunt around here so we pretty spoiled in that respect.
The Space
Three bedrooms but second lounge downstairs can have bed in it- perfect for the snorer or sleep talker!
We have a cot in the middle room and a fold out double bed, but happy to put a single bed or single bunks in there if need be, depending on ages of the guests.
There are stairs to the top floor, where the bedrooms and two bathrooms are.
The garage has internal access to the house.
Guest Access
Guests have access to the whole house and section.
Also access to our bikes, and inflatable SUP and Kayak. We live on a hill but my commuter is an e bike with plenty of pep to get me and my daughter up the hill!
Notes
We can prepare a welcome guide to show how the internal heating. TVs and other bits and pieces work. There is not too many tricky things at our place.
We have a few gardens and can either get someone in to weed and mow or guests could take that on, with the bonus of eating the veges grown and whatever fruit our trees are producing.
As we have a toddler, we are well set up for little people - high chair, cot, toys, cutlery etc. the playground seems to be a hit with all ages as can double as an area to workout.

Neighbourhood
Lots of native birds and trees. Neighbours around who are friendly but can’t be seen from the home.
Good spot to walk from home. 12 minutes walk down hill into town. There is a shared collab space I work from in town. The other people working there are friendly and respectful. You can use my desk and extra screen there if working remotely and don’t want to work at home in our office.
There are local tennis and pickleball courts, with friendly matches at certain times of the week. These are five minutes drive down the hill.
The hockey turf and football fields are also five minutes drive.
Ohope beach is also fun for fishing off the wharf, jumping off the wharf, paddling around in harbour and biking around.
Summertime is very action packed in this part of the world, with people making the most of the beautiful beaches and lakes, and the local population up bars, pizza joints and music gigs that accompany a typical Kiwi summer.
Lots of activities to do that are a stones throw away, plus the EV to use (Tesla model y so it’s roomy enough for five), which makes it an affordable way to see the a lot of the North Island of New Zealand.
It is also possible to bike around our neighbourhood - we have bike you can borrow with little kids and toddler seats on them.
Getting to my home
10 minutes drive from the Whakatane airport. One hour from Tauranga airport which is a bit bigger. Rotorua airport 1hr 20 minutes away. The drive home from the Rotorua airport is beautiful - past the stunning swimable lakes. We could arrange to have you picked up or pick you up ourselves if it’s a Non simultaneous stay or there is a slight overlap; we are able to stay local if things the case.
Nearest airport
Whakatane, 10 minutes

We are a family based in Whakatane, looking for a house swap to experience a different lifestyle/ community. We have two young daughters and a dog, who could go to my parents if need be, while we away. We have an EV that is charged with solar for you to use, which means no petrol bills :)
Our two daughters are still young (1.5 and 4.5) but old enough that we can do something different and experience new things.
I could also work potentially from an office in a city as I am a health planner (part time) and we have offices dotted around the place.
We are new to home exchanges but keen to find like minded family to swap with as we also live in a beautiful part of the world close to an amazing family friendly beach and other NZ hot spots. Would love to offer our home to another family, to enjoy. Surrounded by lots of native birds, trees, good walks and a quick walk into town. We are flexible with time frames.
We have a cot set up in one room but can change that out to a single. Also have fourth room that could have a bed if need be- it’s down stairs so perfect for the snorer!
