General Overview
What makes our home a great place to visit:
- Across the road from Hills Showground metro, 35 minutes to the city. Metros come so frequently you can just turn up and go and there is no need to check the timetable.
- Bushy area with some great walks
- Large supermarket, kids cafe, cafes and restaurants, gym and pilates, farmers markets and community events across the road
- Very comfortable and new
- Set up for toddlers/young children
- Very baby friendly area with lots to do!
Our home is a rare (for Sydney!) large apartment. It is new and very comfortable with ducted air conditioning and heating and floor to ceiling windows. We live in suburban Sydney in a bushland area, in the centre of our local district. This means that we have a combination of great amenities and also beautiful parks and the historic showground. We live across the road from Sydney metro, with a 35 minute metro ride to the city arriving every few minutes! There is also a large supermarket and some great Al fresco cafes and restaurants at the metro.
The Space
We have an open plan living space, study, and 3 bedrooms. The master has a king bed and ensuite, the guest bedroom has a queen with a bedrail, and the nursery has a cot. We can be flexible with the bedding and add a bed or a bassinet for a longer stay. There is also a portacot on hand. If what is currently in our bedrooms doesn't suit your family, please contact us because it is possible we can sort something out.
We also have a laundry, storage cupboard and a guest bathroom with a bath. The balcony is large but we have construction dust from construction on the street and we keep it clear of claimable furniture, so don't get excited about getting too much use out of the space!
Guest Access
It's a single level apartment on the third floor of the building (building includes a ground, so in some countries it would be called the fourth level). There is a elevator from the lobby and carpark and a ramp to the street. There is currently a lot of construction on the street and can be parked cars, so it can be tricky to walk along if you have mobility concerns. We manage with the pram but a wheelchair would struggle.
Notes
We are pretty far from the beach by car or public transport, so if you are coming to Sydney with the hopes of a morning dip and coffee, our home probably isn't for you! It takes about 40 minutes to get to the nearest beach.

Neighbourhood
Our neighbourhood is very family friendly. It is quite bushy, and we have Castle Hill Showground and Fred Patterson reserve across the road. Castle Hill is the central hub for our local area so it has a lot of amenities. The Showground hosts fortnightly farmers markets, monthly night markets, and other frequent cultural events.
We have some beautiful bushland and expansive parks nearby. We have a lot of amenities nearby, especially for kids. There is a great kids play cafe across the road that we utilise often. There is also a 24 hour gym and Pilates studio a 5 minute walk away.
Further afield, we are only a bit over half an hour from the city on the metro. Sydney Harbour is absolutely beautiful and I go into the city with my baby at least once a week. There are so many options for play and Sydney is a great mix of culture, food, and nature. I can give lots of advice about where to go as we are out and about a lot and know Sydney, and our local area, very well.
Getting to my home
The metro is definitely the best way to get around. There are also lots of buses at the metro station but we honestly don't use them much because most places you want to go are on the metro line.
Nearest airport
The new Western Sydney airport is the closest, but it doesn't have good public transport links and traffic can be bad in that part of Sydney. Kingsford Smith has an airport train to Central and then you can change to the metro. Beware that the airport train charges $25 per person so if you have a larger group, it is often cost effective to take an uber instead.
Getting Around
We are across the road from the Hills Showground. This is a historic showground which has been converted into a transit oriented development. There is a metro station which is 35 minutes from the city, which stops at Chatswood, North Sydney, Barrangaroo, Martin Place, Gadigal (Town Hall) and Central. Once you are in the city, you absolutely must take a Sydney ferry at least once on your trip! Ferries leave from Barrangaroo and Circular Quay and make stops around the harbour as well as at some harbour beaches, Luna Park, Manly, and a few scattered Islands. They are famously part of the public transport network.
There is also a large Woolworths supermarket and many al fresco cafes and restaurants at the showground. We can arrange for you to have our car, and we also have a cargo ebike with a bike seat.

Alice
G'day! We are a family of 3 Sydney natives. We absolutely love this city and want to share it with other travellers. We have travelled a lot before having children but have never done a house swap before. I am a teacher and my husband is in the tech industry.
Our family spends a lot of time out and about enjoying Sydney and everything it has to offer. We know the city very well and it would be a joy to help another family enjoy it as much as we do.
