                                    Hospitality Description: We would love to host people, for short stays, up to 3 nights. We would be happy to cook and eat with you, or direct you to great eating spots locally. We can advise you on places to visit and would love to show you around amazing Northumberland. Please note we only have one bathroom upstairs and a toilet downstairs. 
We are happy to drive you to/from Alnmouth railway station.

General Overview

We love our comfortable, three bedroomed, end of terraced house right by the sea. We are an easy walk to beaches, the harbour with cafes, restaurants and gift shops. A tucked away position in a bustling seaside town.
The two front bedrooms have sea views. We are about 200 metres from two beaches- one sheltered, sandy designated swimming area and one with rock pools, fossils and sea glass.
Northumberland is a beautiful county with expansive skies, hills, sandy beaches and lots of castles. Home to Hadrian’s Wall, Alnwick Castle, Bamburgh Castle, Holy Island/Lindisfarne, Cragside, the Farne Islands, Seahouses and the Craster kipper and there is plenty to see. Amble is close to Alnmouth railway station where you can get a train into Newcastle upon Tyne in about 20 minutes. It is on the main LNER line to King’s Cross, London (3 hrs 30mins) and York (1 hr 25 mins) Durham (45mins) and Edinburgh( 1 hr 5 mins) are a day trip away.

There is a collection of board games, CDs and sheet music to amuse yourself with! 

We have a secure garage where you can store bicycles. There may even be electric bicycles and a kayak available. 

Jess, the dog, would probably prefer to travel with us, and your dogs would be welcome here. However, Jess is always happy to have new dog sitting friends. If you would like to look after Jess we do like to “hand her over” in person as she is an old lady. We are happy to consider reciprocal pet care if practicable.

We do have cleaners fortnightly. If you are happy for them to come in while you are staying, we can arrange for them you clean for you and we would cover the cost.

The Space

We think our home is very comfortable. The house was an Air BnB for many years before we bought it in June 2025. We replaced the kitchen and bathrooms and decorated downstairs. We still have the bedrooms to redecorate and the front garden to redesign. Downstairs there is a kitchen with a table, a dining room with a seating area, a lounge with TV and multi-fuel stove, and a toilet/cloakroom. The flooring downstairs is hard, with rugs, other than the back porch which has matting.
The access to the front is step free, however there is a threshold to step over into the front porch. 
Upstairs there are three double bedrooms. There are 2 king size beds and a single that has a smaller single under, which can make a large double bed, or be twin beds. The bathroom has a large shower, with a small step up to the shower tray. There are grab rails by the shower and toilet. The shower tray is non slip. There is no bath tub.
There is a fourth room, which is used for stained glass work and therefore not accessible to guests for safety.
The house has small seating areas front and back, so you can follow the sun through the day! The front garden is work in progress!

Guest Access

There are two floors. The stairs have one bannister and a newel post rail. There are two small steps to the back door. There are grab rails in the bathrooms and a shower stool is available.
The sofas are on extended legs. The house has been designed for my reduced mobility.

There is a train station in Alnwick, about 15 minute my car. There are good bus links to the main towns.

Notes

The house is an end of terrace, built onto an old terrace with a double wall, so nice and quiet inside.

Neighbourhood

Amble was once and industrial, coal, and fishing port. It is still an active fishing port, you can get fresh fish from the harbour and there are several seafood restaurants in the town. Amble has recently become more of a popular tourist destination, but we love that it still has a real working town feel to it. Known as “the friendliest port”, Amble is a favourite for many people.
The beaches are varied, one of them is dog free in the summer. There are many cafes, pubs and restaurants in Amble and enough shops for day to day needs - a supermarket, post office, butchers, fishmongers.
There are good walks and cycle routes from the doorstep- a gentle stroll to Warkworth castle up the Coquet river where you might spot otters, heron and the sculpture trail.
Lots of wildlife locally, the Puffin cruises from the harbour can take you around Coquet Island where Puffins, Seals and Roseate Terns breed.

Getting to my home

To enjoy Northumberland to its fullest use of a car is best. However you can get the train to Alnmouth and then get a taxi (book ahead) or a bus to Amble. 
For the fit and adventurous we are on the NC1 coastal cycle route!

There is a ferry from Amsterdam to Newcastle, which is about 45 mins away.

Newcastle airport is 21 miles/40  mins away.

Getting Around

There is a small convenience shop about 150 metres away. A small Tesco supermarket, the closet part of the Main Street, 10 minutes walk away and the Main Street of shops, with butchers and Heron supermarket another 5 minutes walk. There is a Sunday market, with fruit and vegetables on the harbour, a 5 minutes walk.
For a bigger shop, Morrisons is a mile away, a 20 minutes walk. So it is possible without a car.

Fan

We are a retired couple, with a small dog. Fan is a retired Occupational Therapist and Geoff has had a many different roles, but music is his passion. We love living by the sea and exploring in our camper van. 
We are new to home exchange, but have used house/dog sitters and hosted Workawayers, so are comfortable with hosting, sharing our space and letting others enjoy our home. 
Our 14 year old Border Terrier Cross  would prefer to travel with us, however she is used to dog sitters and we would be happy to include pet care in a swap.
