General Overview

Our cabin is not only our favourite place to stay. It is designed by Ål-hytta, whose cabins have earned national acclaim for their simple, timeless design and Norwegian craftsmanship. For us, it combines an experience of space, light, and connection to the breathtaking mountains of Hallingdal. Our cabin is designed by "Ål-hytta", who have won several prices for their cabins. Even small, it has lots of space, all modern fascilities, and a small hot tub and sauna. It is high up in the mountains, but you can drive up both summer and winter and park just outside the door. You can go cross-country skiing from the door step or drive 20 minutes to the ski resort Geilo, where there are lots of slopes. In summertime you can go on beautiful hikes in any direction.

The Space

The many windows frame panoramic mountain vistas from pretty much every room, so you can wake up to the sunrise over the peaks or watch the Northern Lights from the bed. It has high ceilings, multiple seating areas, and two fireplaces. The cabin sleeps up to 8 guests across 2 bedrooms (one with a queen bed, one with bunk beds), plus 3 loft beds accessed by ladders—perfect for kids or the young at heart. The tiny cabin outside offers an additional queen bed, making it ideal for families or groups of friends. Luxury in the Wilderness There is a wood-fired hot tub for 5 and a tiny sauna for two, and the full bathroom also features a compact sauna for 2

Neighbourhood

In winter, there are 2,000 kilometers of groomed cross-country ski trails of all levels in Hallingdal. Some can be accessed directlyfromthe cabin. Or, drive just 20 minutes to Geilo, where you’ll find slopes for every skill level. In summer there are. endless bike and hiking trails, or you can fish in lakes or the river. Or maybe explore the region’s rich cultural heritage, from stave churches to local cheese farms.

Getting to my home

By car or by a combination of train from Oslo or Bergen and taxi from the station.

Getting Around

The nearest grocery shop is about 10 minutes by car. There is also a small, Italian restaurant there

Want to stay in our ocean home for Christmas and watch our cats? Also looking for long weekend/week in Italy for fall 2026 and Christmas 2026 in San Diego We are a couple in our 50-ties, experienced home exchangers, and we love to travel. As the kids a grown and left the nest we usually travel alone, but occasionally one or two of them will tag along. Fortunately our work (researcher/IT special investigator) allows us to work from any corner of the world for longer periods of time. We have had great exchanges to New York, Portugal, Italy, England and France already, and have had many wonderful guests in our homes. For 2026 we are looking for stays in Italy anytime and La Jolla, California for Christmas. For 2027, anywhere! :) We have 2 homes and a mountain cabin we could be willing to exchange: a tiny traditional wooden house in the middle of Bergen, our ocean side home on Hellesøy outside Bergen, and a small cabin in the high mountains near the ski resort Geilo.
