General Overview
Our home has been set up to feel more like a retreat than just a holiday house, and we love sharing it with fellow travellers who appreciate comfort, nature, and a stunning view with their morning coffee (or evening wine!).
“Serendipity” is a spacious, premium home designed for relaxing and reconnecting. The property sleeps 8–10 guests comfortably and works beautifully for families, couples travelling together, or multi-generational groups.
The Space
The house includes:
* 4 bedrooms
* 3 bathrooms
* 2 lounges
* Full kitchen plus kitchenette
* Multiple outdoor areas with lake views
* Flexible layout that can be split into two separate spaces for larger groups or extra privacy
The views across the lake are the real star here. Sunrises are magic, and evenings on the deck watching the changing colours over the water never get old.
The Location
We’re tucked away in peaceful Acacia Bay, just a short drive from Taupō town centre but far enough away to feel calm and restorative.
Nearby you’ll find:
* Lake swimming and kayaking
* Hiking and mountain biking trails
* The famous Huka Falls
* Geothermal attractions
* Great cafés and local markets
* Skiing on Mount Ruapehu in winter
It’s an ideal base for both adventure and doing absolutely nothing.

Neighbourhood
Taupō is a vibrant lakeside town in the heart of New Zealand’s North Island, famous for its stunning natural scenery, outdoor adventures, geothermal activity, and relaxed holiday atmosphere.
Set on the shores of the spectacular Lake Taupō — New Zealand’s largest lake — the area offers incredible lake and mountain views, beautiful sunsets, and easy access to nature in every direction. The lake itself was formed by one of the world’s largest volcanic eruptions, giving the region its dramatic landscape and geothermal character.
Taupō is a year-round destination and a perfect base for:
* Boating, kayaking, paddleboarding and trout fishing
* Hiking and mountain biking
* Geothermal parks and hot pools
* Scenic cruises and Māori rock carvings
* Waterfalls including the famous Huka Falls
* Ski trips to Mount Ruapehu during winter
Despite being a popular visitor destination, Taupō still feels relaxed and welcoming, with great cafés, local markets, lakeside dining, and plenty of peaceful spots to unwind.
Our area, Acacia Bay, is especially loved for its quiet atmosphere, stunning lake views, and easy access to both the lake and town centre — offering the perfect balance of privacy and convenience.
Getting to my home
Reaching Taupō is easy, whether you’re flying or enjoying one of New Zealand’s great road trips.
By Air
Taupō Airport is a small, relaxed regional airport located around 15–20 minutes from the house in Acacia Bay.
There are regular domestic flights from:
* Auckland
* Wellington
* Christchurch (seasonal/direct options may vary)
Rental cars are available at the airport, and taxis, shuttles and rideshares service the area.
If flying internationally, most visitors arrive via Auckland Airport and either take a connecting domestic flight or drive south to Taupō.
By Car
Taupō sits centrally in the North Island and is an easy drive from many major destinations:
* Around 3.5 hours from Auckland
* Around 4.5 hours from Wellington
* Around 1 hour from Rotorua
* Around 1.5 hours from Hamilton
The drive into Taupō is scenic and straightforward, with beautiful lake and mountain views as you approach town. Having a car is ideal for exploring the wider region, including geothermal attractions, hiking trails, waterfalls, wineries, and ski fields in winter.
Our home is located in peaceful Acacia Bay, just a short drive from Taupō’s shops, restaurants and lakefront.

Sue
We are Sue and Richard. A 50 something fun-loving, adventurous couple originally from the UK, lived 10 years in Australia and currently living in Taupō, New Zealand. Together for over 30 years and both high school teachers for over 25 years, we love to spend our holidays skiing, biking, hiking, backpacking. boating and adventure tiring in our campervan. We are now empty nesters and have completed many exchanges on NZ but we are now looking for some opportunities overseas. We love meeting new people and experiences new cultures like a local.
People Like Us is the world's most trusted home exchange community. We believe in sharing, trust, generosity, respect, communication, equality, cooperation, honesty, hospitality, friendship, flexibility and adventure. We take pride in our homes and we care about the environment in which we live: our village, city, country and our planet. We care about the ethos of home exchange and we do it because we love the experience and the friendships that it generates.
