General Overview

Our waterfront home is located in a quiet neighbourhood in Nanaimo on Vancouver Island. We enjoy spending time on the deck watching the birds, seals, otters, and dolphins that pass by. We don’t want to get your hopes up … but the occasional whale(s) finds its way into the bay! Vancouver Island is located on the west coast of Canada and offers a mix of beaches, forests, parks, and small coastal communities to explore. Our home is well situated for exploring many parts of Vancouver Island while also providing a peaceful place to relax by the water.

The Space

Our home is spread across three levels. The main floor features the primary bedroom with ensuite, a fully equipped kitchen, dining area, living room, front entry, and a spacious deck with ocean views. We also have two solarium rooms—one overlooking the ocean and the other facing the front garden. These are some of our favourite spaces to enjoy morning coffee, read, play games, or simply relax and take in the surroundings. From the deck, stairs lead down to the backyard, where a gate provides direct access to the beach. The backyard can also be reached by pathways on either side of the house. Upstairs, you'll find two additional bedrooms (one currently used as a painting studio) and a full bathroom. The lower level is awaiting renovation and is currently used for storage. This area is not included as part of the home exchange. My husband is self-employed. His office on computer are located on the lower level and he will need to access it each day for a few hours. It has its own private entrance and driveway. You are likely not even going to know he is there. Above our garage is a self-contained suite, home to our long-time wonderful tenant and her friendly little Yorkie, who you'll likely meet out on the front lawn. For guests with mobility considerations, please note that the main floor includes a sunken living room. There is one step down from the front entry into the living room and two steps down from the dining area.

Notes

About 45 minutes north of our home is Rathtrevor Beach Provincial Park, where low tide reveals long stretches of sandy beach and shallow water. Approximately three hours west of Nanaimo are Ucluelet and Tofino. Both communities are known for their beautiful coastal scenery, beaches, hiking trails, and opportunities to enjoy nature.

Getting to my home

We are about 10 minutes from the Departure Bay ferry terminal, with a 90-minute ferry connection to Vancouver via the Horseshoe Bay route. For those arriving through Vancouver International Airport (YVR), the Tsawwassen–Duke Point ferry is another convenient option. The crossing takes approximately 2 hours and 10 minutes, and our home is about 25 minutes from the Duke Point terminal. A third option is to take the ferry from Tsawwassen to Victoria and drive approximately 2.5 hours north to Nanaimo. Victoria is a lovely city known for its gardens, waterfront walks, and historic downtown area.
