General Overview
The Knob is our two-bedroom mountain home in Western North Carolina, about 20 minutes from Asheville and close to Black Mountain. We have beautiful mountain views, big decks, and a hot tub. We love having our coffee out on the deck in the morning listening to the birds, and sitting outside at night looking at the stars.
We really love this area because there’s something for everyone. We enjoy hiking and biking, driving the Blue Ridge Parkway (and stopping for lots of photos!), and spending time in Asheville and Black Mountain. There’s also the Biltmore Estate, galleries, shops, live music, and so many great places to eat.
The Knob is a special place for us, and we’d love to share it with you!
The Space
The Knob has two bedrooms and two bathrooms. The main level has the kitchen, dining and living area, primary bedroom, and bathroom. We spend most of our time here cooking, eating, and relaxing. There are lots of windows with mountain views, and the Jøtul gas stove keeps it cozy in the winter. The loft is another comfortable spot for watching TV or playing games.
Downstairs is the second bedroom and bathroom, along with another living area. There’s also a futon that pulls out for extra sleeping space, and we have bedding for it.
We have a covered front porch and a large deck off the main level, with lots of seating for relaxing and enjoying the mountain views. The deck also has a table and chairs for eating outside, along with the hot tub. The house is surrounded by trees, so it feels private and peaceful.
Guest Access
There are about six outside steps with a handrail up to the front door. Once inside, the kitchen, living and dining area, primary bedroom, bathroom, and deck are all on the main level. There are stairs down to the second bedroom, bathroom, and living area, and stairs up to the loft.
We’re in the mountains, so the property is sloped in places.
You’ll have the house to yourself and can use both levels, the loft, deck, covered front porch, and hot tub.
Notes
Parking is right in front of the house, with room for two cars. The mountain road up to the house is gravel so we recommend an all-wheel-drive or 4-wheel-drive vehicle. There’s only one other house farther up the mountain, so it’s usually very quiet.
We keep a few personal things in the downstairs closets, so those stay locked.
We’re happy to consider one small, sweet, well-behaved dog under 35 pounds. We’d just like to talk a little about your dog before making the exchange.
We keep the house non-smoking since we and some of our guests have allergies.
We have Wi-Fi at the house. Cell service can be spotty, but phones usually work fine when connected to Wi-Fi.
The hot tub is available for you to enjoy.
We like to have the house professionally cleaned between stays so it’s ready for whoever is staying there next. We’re happy to work out the cleaning arrangements depending on the exchange.
If you’re visiting in winter, keep an eye on the weather. The road is not plowed for snow, so it’s good to plan ahead.

Neighbourhood
The Knob is in a quiet mountain setting with only a few homes nearby, so it feels peaceful and private. We love having the mountains around us while still being close to Black Mountain and Asheville. One of the things we enjoy most about the area is the variety—hiking, biking, waterfalls, and the Blue Ridge Parkway, but also great restaurants, shops, galleries, live music, breweries, and the Biltmore Estate.
Getting to my home
The easiest way to reach The Knob is by car. The last part of the drive is on a gravel so we recommend an all-wheel-drive or 4-wheel-drive vehicle. Parking is right in front of the house, with room for two cars.
Nearest airport
Asheville Regional Airport is the closest airport and has rental cars available. Allegiant offers a number of nonstop flights into Asheville from cities around the U.S., although some routes are seasonal. Charlotte Douglas International Airport and Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport are also options if you don’t mind a longer drive.
Getting Around
You’ll want a car while you’re here. Black Mountain is about 15 minutes away and is the closest place for groceries, restaurants, and shops. Asheville is about 20 minutes away. Most things are an easy drive from the house, but there isn’t much within walking distance.

Hi! We’re Tania and Frank. We live in the mountains of Western North Carolina. I’m a pediatric nurse practitioner and Frank teaches high school biology. Our kids are grown, and we’re both getting close to retirement, so we’re looking forward to having more time and flexibility to travel together.
When we travel, we love outdoor activities like hiking, biking, kayaking, fishing, and birding. But we also enjoy trying local food, exploring towns and villages, and getting to know the area.
We’re new to home exchange. We like the idea of meeting new people and visiting places we might not have considered before. We’re excited to give it a try!
People Like Us is the world's most trusted home exchange community. We believe in sharing, trust, generosity, respect, communication, equality, cooperation, honesty, hospitality, friendship, flexibility and adventure. We take pride in our homes and we care about the environment in which we live: our village, city, country and our planet. We care about the ethos of home exchange and we do it because we love the experience and the friendships that it generates.
