General Overview

We live in cosy 2 bedroom town house, in a quiet neighbourhood. 60 steps from the best bakery in town and a 15min walk from shops, cafes, market, and the train station, a perfect base for exploring The Netherlands . The heather fields and woods are a 10min stroll from the house. These are national parks and you can spend an entire day walking, and getting lost in nature. You'll find a few delightful tea houses to refuel and enjoy and a relaxing moment in a gorgeous setting, set back off on your hike. We have a dog (no need to watch her, we'll organise a sitter) so I take walks in the nearby woods daily. I am still discovering some incredible walks in nature, this part of The Netherlands has so much to offer if you are a nature lover. We can provide bikes so getting to these locations is easy, but if cycling is not your vibe, the house is walking distance from spending your days getting lost in nature, literally! Hilversum is only a 20min train journey from Amsterdam, also 20mins from Utrecht. its ideally located to spend a day in the city and then return back to peace and quiet!

The Space

We have a cosy little house, full of colour and light. The sun hits the back of the house in the morning and stays until about 5:30 in the evening. When the sun hits the front of the house, it fills the space up with evening sunlight. The living space is open plan, so you and your travel companions can always interact, but the layout also allows for a quiet moment on the couch (in the little cosy nook), at the dining table or in the kitchen at the island. The bedrooms are cosy, with double beds. The attic bedroom is my favourite space in the house, it gets the morning sun, I love to work here, sitting at my desk and feeling the sun on the back of my neck. The second bedroom, has plenty of space for a blowup bed, which we provide. Our cosy little garden is sheltered from any wind and with full sun all day long. It's the perfect place to take a day off from sight seeing and enjoy a lazy day lounging in the sun, it was a sunny day when I wrote this piece, its The Netherlands sun is not a guarantee :-)

Guest Access

We have a three story house, with a very typical dutch stairs, its steep! There's a toilet downstairs, and a bathroom on the 1st floor with bath and shower. The bedrooms are on the 1st and second floor.

Notes

If you love nature this town is a great place to visit. The town is surrounded by woods, heather fields and lakes to the south. It takes about 45mins to cycle to the lakes, if the weathers good you can hire a boat for the day. For the thrill seekers there's a zip lining woods close by, takes about 20mins to cycle there. We went there for my daughter 9th birthday, just perfect for a family day out, with levels to suit all adventure types. Hilversum is great little town, with so much to offer for the kids, indoor trampoline park, an indoor inflatable park, bowling, cinema, great food hall for even the fussiest of eaters, and plenty more restaurants to choose from. With both Amsterdam and Utrecht only 20mins away by train, you can enjoy, everything that these gorgeous cities have to offer.

Hello all, lovely to be part of this community. We are a family of three, Scottish, Irish and our 9 year old daughter, born and raised in The Netherlands. Im a life coach and my husband is a music producer. We love to travel, and idea of staying at someones house while our own home is also being looked after sounds perfect, win win! My husband travels to South America once a year for work, this platform would it much more possible for us to make a family holiday out of his next trip. We would also love to travel and discover more of our home countries. We've never done an exchange before, but very excited to start. Looking forward to making new connections.
