Neighbourhood
Barrie is a city of 160,000 people, located about 80 km north of Toronto. On the shores of Kempenfelt Bay, the western arm of Lake Simcoe, it was originally colonized by settlers in early 1800’s. There are some lovely historic areas through the city, including the Allandale heritage neighbourhood where we live. There’s easy access nature, including bike and hiking paths, lakes, alpine and nordic skiing, mountain biking, golf courses, wetlands, and beaches. We have a wide range of restaurants, farms, and farmers markets, for those who like food and eating! There’s an art gallery, theatre, cinemas (including a drive in!), a major outdoor concert venture, casino and a horse racking track. There are many small towns and cities nearby, which are excellent for daytrip adventures. The beautiful Muskoka lakes vacation district is just 30 minutes to the north.
Nearest airport
Pearson International Airport (YYZ) and Toronto Island Airport (YTZ), both about 100 km.
Getting Around
We could consider a car exchange, we’ve done this many times in past. Otherwise, we have a city bus stop just steps from the house. The bus and train station is a 750m walk, with train/bus to Toronto and regional cities and towns. We have three bikes that can be used. There is also a car rental company about 500m away (Enterprise).
