General Overview

Our 1-bedroom apartment is efficient, conveniently located, and we like to make it as cozy as possible. We do not have any pets and keep the apartment pretty tidy.

The Space

We have a full kitchen: gas stove, dishwasher, oven, microwave, three types of coffee makers, full spice rack, and every useful cooking tool. The bathroom always has toilet paper stocked up and plenty of fresh towels. We have full washer dryer in the house as well. We keep our living room furniture in good condition, so please reciprocate - plenty of coasters for drinkware on wood surfaces :) The black leather couch could be a sleeping space for a third person, but you'd need to pull all the shades as the street lamps do illuminate the interior of our space quite well. The bedroom has a queen bed and a nice desk and chair if you plan to do any work here. There are two extra wool blankets in the living room if more bedding is needed, although the apartment stays surprisingly warm; we actually never need to use the heater. And since this is SF, there is no such thing as air conditioning. For a breeze or fresh air, you can open the kitchen window and/or run the box fan located in the bedroom.

Guest Access

We are on Ground Floor and you will need to use two to three steps to get up the stoop. We have two keys. The big square one to get into the lobby door and the diamond shaped one to get into the apartment door. The apartment door automatically locks so make sure you don't ever leave without a set of keys. I have a spare but only for emergencies!

Notes

Some things to be aware of: -Trash room is in the basement (one level down). It has compost, trash and, recycling. You will need to use the big square gate key to get back in if you are walking it down, otherwise the chute will do. -The smoke alarms are super sensitive, so if you burn anything slightly on the stove, those things will start screaming. Just need to open the kitchen window and shut the bedroom door. -The apartment is located slightly at street level so street noise may be an issue. We sleep with a box fan and that helps tremendously. -Another thing that is maybe obvious, but never leave the house with the window open - always close and latch the lock.

Neighbourhood

We are in Lower Nob Hill, which is known as the historic hotel district. It is the residential neighborhood closest to Union Square and close to downtown financial district. There are plenty of great restaurants, but I would generally stick to anything west of Mason St., otherwise they become too touristy. Tenderloin also has authentic and well priced food, but depends if you want to venture that far down the hill. We have a Trader Joes that is a 10 min walk or Whole Foods 15 min walk, both west of here. The best fresh produce that is not a chain is Golden Farmer's Market on Polk & California St (in between TJ's and WF). We normally chef at home so those are our go-to's for anything and everything.

Getting to my home

Best way to get to our home is to arrive at Powell Station near Union Square, walk up the hill for 10 min, then 5 more on the flat, and you've arrived.

Nearest airport

SFO is 40 minutes via BART (25min train + 15min walk) or 25 via Uber. Oakland airport is also accessible, just add another 20 minutes!

Getting Around

We live in the city center so are close to anything you'd need on foot, but there are numerous bus lines, and BART so it is very easy to zip in and out of the city. All the car rental shops are a 2min walk down the hill if you need a rental for driving around the city or greater Bay Area. I find that they are quite affordable for the day (less than $80) so they're really useful for day trips.

Hello, we are Rachel & Brad from San Francisco. We are a couple from opposite ends of the US (MN & GA) and are happy to be here! We live together in our 1bed apartment in Lower Nob Hill that we love and keep good care of. Together we love to read, watch movies, cook, throw the disk or nerf, swim, camp, visit family, and brainstorm / work together on passion projects. Apart we have our own loves. Rachel likes to experiment with risograph, Brad loves games and software. Some fun trips we have taken recently were to Charleston & Savannah during Christmas, a WWOOFing farm in the Swiss Alps in the summer, and previous summer trip to see friends in UK/Spain/Portugal. We would love to start swapping more in with other like-mined couples or solo travelers and are looking forward to our upcoming trip to NYC.
