General Overview

We feel our place offers a great blend of being on the edge of a major town, with all the facilities that offers; having the countryside on its doorstep (the Thames path is 300m from our front door and within 10 mins cycling you can smell the manure) yet is just 23 mins on the train to London. It also offers excellent transport links to the rest of the country: lots of direct trains to Wales and the West Country and Gatwick airport; a direct bus to Heathrow; and close to junctions 10-12 of the M4. It is perfectly placed for days out to places like Legoland, Windsor Castle and Henley Royal regatta. It also ofers a great place commuting: lots of the major tech and pharmaceurical companies have their main offices here. The property is within a 10 minute walk along the Thames to the centre of Reading and its excellent shops, restaurants and bars. The Thames River footpath is within 300m of the property and is excellent for bikers, runners and dog walkers. The Thames itself is swimmable in where we are and is awash with rowers, kayakers and paddle boarders.

The Space

The property benefits from 3 double bedrooms, practical and cosy downstairs rooms and a landscaped, sunny rear garden. If it was anything other than a simultaneous exchange then only 2 of these bedrooms would be available.

Guest Access

The house is over 3 floors and while we have welcomed disabled guests in the past it wouldn't be suitable for wheelchair users.

Neighbourhood

We live over the rive from central Reading in the suburb of Caversham. We are 100m from the park that runs along the Thames, which has a great kids playground and even a paddling pool in summer. Central Caversham has lots of lovely independent shops and a great community feel.

Nearest airport

Nearest airport is Heathrow (direct bus) but you can also get a direct train to Gatwick. We have also used Southampton, Bristol, Luton and Stansted in the past - all accesible by public transport.

Getting Around

We are 15 mins walk to the main train station and have 2 bus stops within 100m of the house!

Richard

Hello! We're Rebecca and Richard: a couple who love to be outside hiking, biking, trail running or walking our gorgeous Spaniel Monty. Richard has an 8 year old son, Harry, who shares a passion for nature and wildlife. Harry, had his first holiday to France but would love to visit Greece, Italy and Spain (history is a big interest for him)! Rebecca is a qualified PT, who also works part time as a virtual assistant. She loves nothing better than being out on her bike in Spain enjoying the smooth roads and blue skies. She has a very keen eye for detail and is the expert planner / organiser out of the two of us. Richard works in housing development. He loves being out on a forest, coast or countryside walk/run with Moo. Gardening and animal husbandry are a passion and anything DIY related are always greeted with enthusiasm. We own a Victorian era semi detached property in Caversham. The house benefits from 3 double bedrooms, close proximity to Reading's amenities including The Oracle Shopping Centre, Main Line Station ( Trains to London Paddington take 23 minutes), beautiful walking trails along the River Thames and excellent transport links. The house is first and foremost a family home and has a warm and comforting vibe but does offer excellent levels of practicality. Ideally we are looking for a house swap with someone who owns a semi rural property where we are within a 15 minute walk of local amenities, either with a private pool or a village/ town communal pool within walking/driving distance, good hikes and biking routes and family attractions within a 1 hour drive. We are both very open to looking after animals or a smallholding etc (Richard would take it as a bonus!) and cherish peace and quiet.
