General Overview

Our home is filled with sunshine and everything you need for your stay. We are currently planning a trip to Canada from the end of September to the end of November. If you would like to come and stay during that time, please get in touch. :)

The Space

Our home was built in the 1920's and has been recently renovated to turn it into a modern, warm and charming home for our young family. An open plan kitchen/dining area and views over Newtown and the surrounding hills. We get evening sun with stunning sunsets. We have a lovely private backyard with a pizza oven, bbqs, brazier and vege/fruit gardens. Our home is family friendly, with plenty of books, toys, beds and a cot if needed. Relax in our lounge with our record player/stereo or watch a film on the projector. We have a ducted heat pump for keeping you warm in winter and AC for summertime.

Guest Access

Access is up a gradual path about 50m up from the road, with a town reserved behind us. Surrounded by trees and lots of bird life, it is peaceful and quiet.

Notes

We have a separate building in our backyard where there are two washing machines and a dryer for laundry. Please note we have two lovely tenants who share our path up to our house and laundry room.

Neighbourhood

Our home is situated in the lovely neighbourhood of Newtown, Wellington. Close to the city, beaches and walking/biking tracks. We are a 15 minute drive or bike ride into the central city with lots of bus routes from Newtown. We are also a 15 minute drive from the airport. We are just around the corner from Wellington Zoo, wake up to the sounds of the gibbons and hear the lions in the evening. Newtown has lots of amazing cafes, restaurants, bars, playgrounds, library, supermarkets and an Italian trattoria and deli.

Nearest airport

We are 15 minutes away from the airport.

Getting Around

Please get in touch if you would like to borrow our car. We also have bikes available (including a cargo ebike) or there are plenty of bus routes nearby. Places to recommend around Wellington city: -Head up to the Mt Victoria look-out for panorama views of the city and help to get your bearings of the city when you first arrive. -Zealandia: an incredible wildlife sanctuary right in the heart of Wellington. Lots of birdlife, tuatara and walking tracks. -Walk around the wild south coast of Wellington to red rocks. Depending on the time of year you might come across a colony of fur seals. -Catch the East by West ferry across to Matiu/Somes Island (in the middle of the harbour, 25 mins). It is a predator free reserve that takes about 45mins to walk around the Island. You do need to book this in advance so the DOC (department of conservation) wardens know you are coming. They ask that you check your bags for any predators that might try to get onto the Island. -Walk or ride around the Wellington waterfront on a good day. On Sunday mornings there’s the waterfront market and there’s also Te Papa, the national museum which is well worth checking out. -Moore Wilsons is a great store for foodies, stocking lots of local products. -Cafes of Wellington, there’s a big coffee and brunch culture here. Some personal highlights, Maranui cafe in Lyall bay where you can watch the surfers and planes come in. -Otari Wilton bush, another beautiful place to go for bush walks in the city. Places to recommend further afield from Wellington -The Paekākāriki Escarpment Track (45mins drive or catch the train): a 10km walking track along the gorgeous Kapiti coast between Paekākāriki and Pukerua Bay. If you have any aversions to heights, I wouldn’t recommend it. Paekākāriki is a lovely seaside village with some great cafes and a gallery. -The Kaitoke Regional Park up by the weir, beautiful native bush and river (50 mins). -The Orongorongo track in the Remutaka forest park, more beautiful bush and longer walking tracks (50 mins drive). -Drive over to Martinborough and explore the vineyards. It’s a 1hr 20min drive over the Remutaka hill. There’s also a lot of other little towns in the Wairarapa which can be fun to explore. Featherston has a great little cheese shop. -Drive to Cape Palliser (2hr trip also over the hill), it has the putangirua pinnacles rock formations. Further along the road, there’s the small Ngawi village, a seal colony and a lighthouse to climb. -Take a tour over to Kapiti Island (just off the Kapiti coast). We've heard great things and it’s on our bucket list.
