General Overview

Our house has two bedrooms, with an additional room downstairs we can make into a third bedroom if needed. The house is bright but cosy, we've enjoyed making the house our own style since we moved in. We can also put an extra fold out bed in this room if you have two children. Just let us know before your stay. It is located just outside York's city walls and has shops, cafes and a playground all nearby. A little courtyard at the back is the perfect place for a morning coffee before you stroll into town and enjoy all the sights of our ancient city. We're happy to give recommendations for things to do but there really something for everyone. Our favourite things to do are the Railway Museum and the many Harry Potter themed activities! York is very walkable so a car is not needed. You can walk to York Railway Station in around 25 mins for day trips to the coast or the countryside.

The Space

The ground floor consists of a hallway, living room, dining room and kitchen. There is also an additional TV room with a double futon. This works well for teenagers wanting their own space (and Netflix!). The first floor has a spacious double bedroom and bathroom. The second floor has a large children's bedroom with a single bed and plenty of toys and Lego. We can put a camp bed or blow up bed in this room for an extra child if needed. There is also an electronic drum kit which we can store away or leave out if you fancy trying it. Outside is a small walled courtyard with bench, table and chairs. In the summer, the climbing climbing flowers make it a lovely place to sit, especially in the morning.

Guest Access

The rooms are spread across three floors which make it unsuitable for wheelchair users. There are no stair gates for young children. Access is via front and back doors.

Neighbourhood

The house is a short walk from the city, with supermarkets and a playground a few minutes walk, as well as the best ice cream shop in York! In November and December York hosts some Christmas markets and lots of other activities, it's a great time to visit. In the summer we like to walk on the ancient city walls and through York's snickleways (tiny back streets built by the vikings). If you like history, architecture, good food and shopping, York is the place for you!

Getting to my home

The railway station is a 25 min walk or a short taxi ride. Parking outside the house is by permit, which we can arrange for you if you choose to drive.

Nearest airport

The closest airport is Leeds Bradford or Newcastle but Manchester is much larger and there are direct trains to York.

Getting Around

York is great for walking across, everywhere is easy to reach. There are trains and buses nearby if you'd like to venture out of the city. We don't have a car to share with you.

Lizzie

We're Lizzie and Laurence, I work in a school and Laurence is a civil engineer. We're a family of four, our children are 9 and 12 and we love to travel. We are new to swapping but have stayed in lots of Airbnbs over the years and always treat other people's homes with respect and care. We love to experience places like a local and show our children more of the world. We love our city and we're keen to share it with other families. I love history and great scenery, my husband likes taking local railway journeys to see more of a country. The kids are happy with good food and a playground! UK school holidays are best for us but we're open to weekend breaks closer to home. Otherwise we're open to any destination.
