San Francisco is a twenty-minute ferry ride away! From 1914, our charming Craftsman feels tucked away in the West End, a special corner of this unique island. Yet the home’s transit-oriented location puts you in the center of it all: there are buses, ferries, and trains to San Francisco and beyond; a water taxi to Oakland; Berkeley is a short drive away. An island-wide bike path runs just beyond our door. Ten minutes by foot is Webster street, with great options for dining and nightlife. Nearby, a converted old naval base now offers a thriving mixed use scene, with a booming culture of breweries, restaurants, and parks, surrounded by incredible views of San Francisco and the East Bay. Our home is on a corner lot and has sunny exposure on three sides. It is sometimes praised as one of the neighborhood’s most charming, which is saying something for a place filled with charming homes. There’s a great, glassed-in porch where our neighbors like to stop and connect. A vast array of cozy seating options and thoughtful layouts help you feel at peace. A recently renovated kitchen has an induction range and soapstone countertops. Hand-painted faux wood detailing, a remarkable stone fireplace, built-in storage and seating, and other original features add to the historic Craftsman appeal. Gorgeous sunset views and friendly neighbors round out this remarkable place.

We're a happy family that's always practicing new things, especially languages. We live in an old Craftsman on an island at the edge of San Francisco Bay. We're often riding bikes. We love seeing the world with our two kids. So far we've been to Mexico, Chicago, and Italy. One day, for a nice long time, we won't live in the United States. The person writing this is named French. He is a former professional ballet dancer turned architectural writer. The person next to him is named Emily. She works for Stanford University and used to work for a photography gallery.
