Neighbourhood
We’re at world-famous K38. It's one of those rare surf spots that still feels like you're in the 1970's. There’s an excellent independently owned coffee place by our amigo, Ivan. You've got Surf Taco next door to Ivan's, and an ecosystem of artisans around the local fish market.
The fish market is a must. You can buy fresh fish and they’ll grill it, ceviche it or make it tempura fab... however you want. Even if you don’t buy anything, it’s worth visiting—Mark Wiens (the dude from YouTube) has featured the market. It has that lively, salt-air, “this is what people actually eat here” vibe.
The drive toward Ensenada from here is stunning. It's one of the most beautiful coastal drives I’ve ever seen. Because of that, I strongly recommend renting a car rather than relying on ride-shares. The freedom to explore is part of the magic down here.
I keep an updated, living Notion guide for the area, because Baja changes with the seasons. What’s open, busy, and what's quietly amazing shifts between high and low season. After we've confirmed, I’ll share the link so you have exact addresses, directions, and my current recommendations (food, coffee, markets, beaches, day trips) all in one place.
Nearest airport
Tijuana Airport. 30 minutes to an hour depending on traffic and time of day.
Getting Around
I strongly recommend renting a car at the Tijuana airport. Ubers exist for sure, but I don’t recommend relying on Uber for the trip from TIJ to our place—it’s considered a longer ride, and drivers often prefer to stay in Tijuana where they can do more frequent fares.
There are also small van-style buses that run up and down the coast, but that’s more of a backpacker/hitchhiker mode, and it’s not the experience I’m optimizing for here. For comfort, flexibility, and ease—rent a car.
