Neighbourhood

Tasmania is high on the food sourcing list for gourmet chefs across mainland Australia and Asia. The Tamar and Huon valleys are renowned food and wine growing areas where primary industries thrive on the pristine air and water of Tasmania. We notice a distinct difference in freshness and flavour of berries, vegetables, fish, dairy and meat products grown locally, and visits to the weekend farmers markets are well worth it. Tasmania also has some of Australia's most beautiful beaches - such as the Bay of Fires - within an easy day trip's distance. However, the main drawcard for Tasmania is its untouched wilderness. From the top of our driveway, you will see we are surrounded by mountains, starting with the ski fields of Mount Mawson and Ben Lomond 39km from our home. There are many trails to explore, ranging from short walks suitable for children to week long expeditions. To give you an idea of what it is like in the wild high country of Tasmania, here is a video of an autumn walk we did on the renowned Overland Trail: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VTf9d8Id45I&t=158s

Nearest airport

Launceston Airport provides direct linkages to all major Australian cities. Jetstar is our low cost carrier, and the air fares are very reasonable if you plan a week or more ahead.

Getting Around

The nearest supermarket is one suburb away - about 5 kilometres. We leave a heavy duty e-bike charged up in the garage you can use for short trips, and of course, there is a car here available for the use of guests who have a valid drivers license.

Alfred

Alfred and Lily work in the book trade. We are nature lovers, and have set up our home in Tasmania due to the region's unique habitat and the extraordinary wilderness on our doorstep. We fly regularly between Launceston and Melbourne, where our business is based. Alfred's early career was as a professional cellist, and most times when we travel, along with a good book or two, the cello comes with us.

My Desired Destinations

Dates Flexible
"We like history-rich European towns. Seeking minimum 2 weeks stay, and although perfect isn't always possible, late May and early June are our favourites as well as being the best time to experience our home in Tasmania."

Dates Flexible
"Especially the South Island. But areas like Coromandel Peninsula and anywhere near a decent wilderness walk is worth considering, too."

Dates Flexible
"All major cities. We have some limitations with timing due to sporadic work commitments, but if you would like to be in Tasmania and swap houses for a maximum stay one week, please contact us."
