Hospitality Description: We are just starting our home exchange journey and still have kids at home so we are limited to school holidays but will be able to add more availability in 2026. We have an outdoor cat who just needs feeding but we can arrange for a neighbour to help with that if you prefer.

General Overview
We are a family of 5 with 3 kids (2 still at school and one at uni who sometimes travels with us). We have a detached property in a beautiful Swiss village 1km walk from the Rheinfalls, and the nearby forests and Rhein river offer beautiful walks too. Although the calendar shows limited availability, there are lots of opportunities during the year for us to do weekend swaps and we can host 2 people most of the time too. The other PLU vocab I haven’t learned yet, but basically, please ask and we’ll try and figure something out 🤩
The Space
We have lived in this house for 16 years and have been slowly renovating since the day we moved in - it continues to be a labour of love! We have many bedrooms, 2 of which are currently being used as hobby rooms. Even so, we can offer 4 double bedrooms as well as a living room adjacent to the kitchen and dining area. The bar room offers a great relaxing or party space (with a pool table and karaoke system) leading onto the south facing garden where you can chill under the pergola, dine, use the jacuzzi, or sunbathe and enjoy the views (on a clear day, you can see the alps).
We have an outdoor cat who comes and goes as she pleases. She is not a fan of cuddles and just likes to be fed and left to her own devices. She is not usually allowed in the bedrooms.
Guest Access
The house is located on a slope and has many levels. You need to be able to do stairs. The driveway and garage lead onto the kitchen level, down 7 stairs to the living room and primary bedroom and ensuite, another 7 stairs down to the “kids bedrooms”, another bathroom, and sewing and art rooms. Down again into the bar room and gym leading out to the garden. And your final descent takes you to two more bedrooms, laundry room and third bathroom.

Neighbourhood
We live a few minutes drive from Schaffhausen, which is a beautiful medieval town with plenty to explore. The Munot castle and old town are a must see, and there are many bars, cafes and restaurants as well as a decent amount of shopping and a farmers market twice a week.
Further afield, but still within 30 minutes drive, you will find Stein am Rhein for more picture perfect site seeing. Also, switzerlands largest city Winterthur is close by for many more Swiss cultural experiences. Zurich city is 45 mins away, and although famous for its winter scenes, has tonnes of summer attractions too.
Our village offers some conveniences like a village shop (Volg) for most grocery needs.
A large Metzgerei with a cafe, famous in the region for quality meats and a great party service, https://metzgerei-niedermann.ch/catering/partyservice
an apple orchard with a shop
https://eichenberger-obst.ch/, and a couple of farmers shops offering bread, veggies, juice and things produced by them. They operate on an honesty basis which is such a cool experience when you serve yourself.
We are originally a wine region and the village has a lot of vineyards and a couple of wineries offering tastings and the like. Here is one… https://wein.ch/?cn-reloaded=1
There is also a playground for kids, and tennis center.
There is a lovely restaurant just a few minutes walk from the house and plenty more in the surrounding villages all within decent walking distances.
Getting to my home
We are 35 minutes drive from Zurich airport. The nearest bus stop is 3 mins walk and goes to Schaffhausen, which takes 17 mins (drive is only 5 mins) or you can walk (about 45 mins).
From Schaffhausen , Zurich city and the airport are a 45 minute train ride. We can help with organising transfers.

Getting Around
We can offer an electric car and have a charging port. Public transport is top notch in Switzerland and there are often deals for train tickets if you want to explore more. Exploring in the village is best by foot since it’s a little hilly.

We are so excited to become a part of this community. Lots of room and a large garden. Better pictures to follow. Welcome to Switzerland.
