General Overview

Our bright and cheery renovated apartment (in 2023) is modern, comfortable, and has a fully equipped kitchen and private parking. We're big cooks, so you'll find appliances like a massive oven and induction stove, a Vitamix blender, etc. We have 3 bedrooms (each with queen or king beds) and two full bathrooms, two balconies, and a pullout couch that turns into a bed in the living room. Our apartment overlooks one of Modena's largest parks, with playground and picnic areas. Modena is a lovely, historical town, and the city center is a 20 min walk or a 10 minute bike ride away (our apartment is directly on a bike lane, and you are welcome to use 2 of our bikes). It makes a great jumping off spot for other areas in Italy as well, and it's located on the main train line, so it's easy to get to Florence, Milan, Bologna, or Venice. We are non-smokers and do not have any pets; we work from home so there is a full office in one of the bedrooms. We are new to PLU and looking forward to hosting (although we hosted quite a lot on Couchsurfing before when we lived in Rwanda).

The Space

-3 separate bedrooms, each with a queen or king bed, plus a pullout couch in our living room which can accommodate 1 adult or 2 children. -2 full bathrooms -Two balcony areas, one overlooking one of Modena's large parks, where you'll find a small forest, playgrounds, and bike lanes. Our larger balcony had a table and chairs for eating outdoors when the weather is nice. -Newly fully renovated kitchen with modern appliances. -Full size washer and dryer.

Guest Access

There is an elevator in our building; we are on the first floor for Europeans (or the second floor for Americans!).

Notes

We are interested in home exchanges in 2026 for around Easter, in July/August (particularly in northern Spain or in southern France), in the fall (Sept/Oct) and in the US for around Christmas 2026/New Years (particularly in Los Angeles).

The neighborhood is very safe, and a short walk or bike ride to the historical city center.

Getting to my home

-TRAIN: Italy's main train line runs through Modena, so transport is fairly easy to other towns and cities in Italy. -BUS: Modena has fairly good public transportation, and you can catch a bus to nearby our house from Modena's train station. -TAXI: There is a reliable taxi company in Modena, including for trips to Bologna airport. -PLANE: Our closest airport is Bologna Marconi (BLQ); it's about 35 minutes away by car. You can also rent a car if you want to have more flexibility in exploring; we have private parking.

Getting Around

-We have a grocery store, a few restaurants and cafes that are walkable. -We can offer two bicycles -There is a bus that comes close to our house (a 5 min walk away).
