Getting around
Milton Keynes is a city in the South East of England, about 30min train ride from London. It has a population of over 250k and is fast becoming one of the most popular places in the UK for young people and families.
Due to its geographical location within the UK, the transport links within Milton Keynes make it a commuter haven. Whether you are looking for a city with good links to London or Birmingham, Milton Keynes offers fast train services so that you can be in either city in less than 35 minutes. With good road links and proximity to the M1, it also offers easy reach to Bedford, Luton, Northampton, Oxford and Cambridge. On top of this, there are five international airports within 90 minutes’ drive with the closest one -Luton-just 20miles away.
As a new and vibrant city Milton Keynes has a wide variety of entertainment. The Xscape centre in central Milton Keynes is described as the ‘ultimate entertainment destination’. It is home to a multiplex cinema, casino, bowling alley, real snow ski slope and there are also numerous shops, bars, restaurants and a gym too.
Milton Keynes is also home to Bletchley Park – once the top-secret location of the World War Two Codebreakers. Bletchley Park played a major role in World War Two, producing secret intelligence which had a direct and profound influence on the outcome of the conflict. It’s also a birthplace of modern information technology and The National Museum of Computing can be found at Bletchley Park.
Milton Keynes was the first place in the country to install a fleet of delivery robots (yes, robots deliver my food), that use the well-pedestrianised walking and bicycle routes to scoot around town. Before that, Beagle 2, a robot that landed on Mars, was invented and built here. Driverless car trials have also taken place in MK.
If racing cars are more your style, then you’re still in luck, with the Formula One championship-winning RED BULL RACING team located in the city and the Silverstone racetrack, home of the UK Grand Prix, only a short drive away.
You don’t have to travel far to experience thrill sports. The Xscape in Milton Keynes offers the SnoZone where you can ski or snowboard to your heart’s content all-year-round and has taught over 2 million guests since its opening in 2000. To satisfy your inner Peter Pan, you can also learn to fly through a unique indoor sky-diving experience iFLY which allows people of all ages to soar through a 12 ft wind tunnel. On warmer days, you can sail, paddleboard or powerboat your way across Willen Lake.
.The National Bowl, a large outdoor venue in the heart of the city, has welcomed the likes of Queen, Jon Bon Jovi, Michael Jackson, David Bowie, Foo Fighters, Eminem, Robbie Williams and Linkin Park for memorable concerts. The Stables is an iconic music venue in the village of Wavendon and more centrally, a modern Theatre regularly houses touring West-End shows such as Les Misérables and Wicked.
For every uniquely built area, there is picturesque nature, giving Milton Keynes residents a truly best of both environment. There are many beautiful lakes to enjoy in locations such as Willen, Caldecott and Furzton as well as large scale parks, woods and walks in neighbouring Woburn, Bow Brickhill and Ampthill. If nature is your thing, Woburn Safari Park and Whipsnade Zoo are both less than 30 minutes away.
Lastly, it is conveniently located for Harry Potter Warner Bross studios, Woburn abbey (deer park), St Albans and much more.
