Neighbourhood

The house is located at the north end of Aviemore with a small supermarket, food take-away's and children’s play areas within the estate. Larger supermarkets, shops, restaurants and bars can be found in town. From the house, many local walks and direct access to cycle routes, including National Cycling Route 7, can be accessed nearby and the centre of town is around 20mins walk away. Aviemore boasts a welcoming village atmosphere with great restaurants, bars, shops, and activities, making it an ideal base for exploring the Highlands. The area is perfect for families, nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts. All within a 20mins car or bus ride are attractions such as Loch Morlich’s sandy beach (the highest in the UK), water sports at Loch Morlich and Loch Insh, Cairngorm Reindeer Centre, Strathspey Steam Railway, Landmark Forest Adventure Park, scenic golf courses, and nearby distilleries for whisky enthusiasts. On Cairngorm Mountain you can take the funicular to the Top Station which has an outdoor viewing terrace, a restaurant/bar, shop and museum.

Nearest airport

Inverness Airport (INV): approximately 36 miles (58 km) via the A9/A96 — about 45 minutes by car. Edinburgh Airport (EDI): approximately 123.6 miles (198.9 km) via the A9 and M90 — around a 2-hour, 15-minute drive Glasgow Airport (GLA): approximately 151.4 miles (243.7 km) via the A9 — typically about a 2-hour, 45-minute drive

Getting Around

Whilst a car is beneficial for exploring further afield, it's not a necessity. Aviemore itself is very walkable. There is a local bus service between the various local towns and villages as well as a bus to Cairngorm Mountain Base Station, which makes a stop at Glenmore for access to Glenmore Forest, Loch Morlich (UK's highest beach) and Cairngorm Reindeer Centre. A funicular railway runs from Cairngorm Base Station to the Top Station.

Darren

Easy going outdoor loving family of four ( teen & a tween). We are a family of 4 living in Central Scotland. We love to travel and experience the different towns and cities of the world. We have a love of the outdoors and are lucky enough to have this Aviemore bolthole to explore all that the Scottish Highlands has to offer. We’re new to house exchanging but are excited about the new adventures it could bring and would be open to suggestions of many destinations. As our boys are still at school we’d normally be looking to travel in the school holidays, when it ties in with our work shift rota, but exchanges would not need to be simultaneous as Aviemore is not our primary residence. In June 2026 we are heading across the pond, to the US, to support our National Football Team in the FIFA World Cup. We’re heading to NYC on 6th June for a few days and then our plan is to be in the Boston area from June 11th to June 21st, although we may try and visit Cape Cod for a few days between matches. Any exchanges in these areas at these times would be most welcome.
