General Overview

BEACH LIVING AT ITS BEST! We are within 400 metres of the beach and there is a wonderful ionised magnesium pool for a quick dip too! The private, pretty garden is enchanting! It is secure behind electric gates and cooled by ocean breezes ... lots of surprises too! The new and modern stand alone kitchen/entertaining area overlooks the pool and the tropical beach themed al fresco dining area by the pool. The master bedroom has a queen sized bed and the second bedroom has 1 large single bed. The bathroom is very, very pretty.

The Space

I may be in my quite seperate accomodation during your stay ... unless it’s a simultaneous swap. I promise to be invisible if so! The spacious, modern kitchen/entertaining space is a completely detached and seperate building which opens out onto an appealing alfresco area around a magnesium swimming pool. The swimming pool is securely fenced with child lock gates and glass screening allowing you to enjoy unobstructed views. The front garden is just gorgeous and so private, secure and pretty. Cooling ocean breezes and birdsong abound and it is just a delightful spot.

Guest Access

The property is completely flat and is all on one level.

Notes

Hervey Bay has an airport. Flights connect to Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane ! You are very welcome to our home! We look forward to visiting yours too ... and it doesn’t need to be fancy either! We just need 3 beds and somewhere different or interesting so please say hi 👋

Neighbourhood

If you can pull yourself away from the pool, the beach, the Esplanade with its cafes, ice-cream shops (70 flavours!) the pubs, clubs, water parks, etc ..there’s plenty more to see and do! Hervey Bay is surrounded by state forests, walking trails and wildlife. Nearby, (1/2 hour) in historic Maryborough you can interact with kangaroos and dingoes as well as cuddly koalas at the Fraser Coast Wildlife Sanctuary. Humpback whales migrate from Antarctica to the sub-tropical coastal waters to give birth and mate and are best seen b/n mid July and mid October. Each year at least 1200 humpbacks migrate 5000km to the eastern coast of Australia. Hervey Bay becomes a whale nursery as the mothers with their babies choose to rest there for 2-3 months every year during the annual migration. Hervey Bay is also known for its easy access to beautiful Fraser Island which guards Hervey Bay from inclement weather. It is just 15 kms, a 50 minute ferry ride from the coast. Fraser Island's World Heritage listing ranks it with Australia's Uluru, Kakadu and the Great Barrier Reef. The Mon Repos Turtle rookeries (1 1/2 hours) are a definite must see. Every year, from November to March, you can join QPWS Rangers at Mon Repos Turtle Centre. You can join a guided tour to watch the turtles laying their eggs in nesting season from November to January. Or visit during the hatching season of the marine turtles which is b/n January and March when the sight of hundreds of tiny turtles struggling to the ocean is unforgettable. In a little over an hour you can drive to Tin Can Bay. It’s a beautiful spot to have breakfast after getting into the water to help feed the dolphins! Rainbow beach is renowned for its coloured sand, beach drives and good swimmming and is a pleasant 1 1/2 hour drive. The world famous Eumundi markets are renowned for its locally made artisan treasures, there’s no other market quite like it. Another ‘must visit’ along with nearby Noosa ... 2 hours drive. When you’re in the vicinity also visit The Kennilworth state forest and experience the fig tree walk and maybe spot a platypus. There are also some great waterfalls in the area. Agnes Waters and the town called 1770 is a longer but rewarding day drive or you could stay or camp overnight. In the same area is Conondale National Park, Sunshine Coast Hinterland which is a 2 1/2 drive from Hervey Bay. Tucked away in this incredible park, the top section of the beautiful two-part waterfall at Booloumba Falls provides a paradisiacal backdrop to a series of crystal clear pools.

Getting Around

The property is 400 mtrs (5 minute walk) to a great swimming beach. The Esplanade runs parallel to the coastline and is lined with eateries of all kinds from ice-cream parlours, (70 flavours!) coffee shops, cafés, pubs, clubs and every restaurant imaginable. Most can be accessed by walking. There is also a bus route along The Esplanade. Hire cars start at $30 a day and can be hired approx. 1 km from our home. Bicycles are also available for hire. Many of the clubs also offer a courtesy bus too. After flying into Melbourne, Sydney or Brisbane airport you would catch an airplane to Hervey Bay or catch the tilt train or hire a car. If we’re not around to pick you up the taxi ride from Hervey Bay airport is a quick 15 minute trip. http://www.emeraldene.com.au/blog/how-to-get-to-hervey-bay-planes-trains-and-automobiles/

Joy and Lisa

We are a family group of three generations who have been exploring parts of the world and Australia together for over 13 years. This is our first house swap foray and we are super excited at the endless possibilities! We trust our beautiful home and seaside surroundings will interest and inspire you too! I, Joy am retired now from work but not from life. I was a sales manager for many years before starting my own direct sales jewellery company with 10 employees and 200 commission agents across Australia. I am a neat freak according to my grandson which is probably the best asset I have to offer as both a home owner (you can be sure my home is comfortable, spruced up and spiffy for you) and as a potential home exchanger as I can’t turn the cleaning/caring gene off when I’m in your home! My daughter Lisa, who is our tour guide is an adventurer who drags us all kicking and laughing out of our comfort zone everywhere we go ... which so far between us has been The Phillipines, Vietnam, India, Singapore, Hong Kong, Athens, the Greek islands, Zimbabwe, Croatia, Switzerland, Austria, France, Malta, Italy, the U.K., U.S., and coming up on our fourth 3 month visit to South America. Lisa is my ‘boy/girl’ in that her father trained her to be self sufficient and taught her such diverse things as how to fix a water pump, rewire her caravan, repair fences, change a tyre and do running repairs, gardening and home maintenance in general. She would be an asset if left to oversee your home, pets and property. Wilson is a free spirit who sees in nature, animals, art and music that which others may not. He loves small children and all animals! He is an accomplished musician and composer in English and Spanish which he speaks fluently. He plays a variety of instruments including the piano, guitar and Bolivian instruments such as the charango and zampoñas. Lisa and Wilson are currently living in Cochabamba, Bolivia where she has now added a new listing to People Like Us. We are delighted to be able to offer you a place in the Andes in Bolivia, South America or a beachside stay in Queensland, Australia.
