General overview

Our home is 100+ years old and much of the original woodworking and flooring has been preserved and gives the house antique charm. I have tried to furnish our home with antiques that keep with the feel of the home, while still having the modern conveniences. We rent half of our home out as a suite on a weekly basis in the July and August, but wanted to offer it as a home swap in the months of June and September. June is a beautiful month in PEI when all of the purple and pink blossoms of the lupins emerge in the ditches and fields all across the island. The freshly planted red dirt fields contrast against the bright green trees and the brilliant ocean. Our home is 5-10 minutes from numerous world class beaches, which are still a little cool for jumping into in June, but still great for a beach walk or playing in the sand. September is another beautiful month on the island, as the weather generally stays fairly warm and there are still a few hot days for jumping into the ocean. We have the warmest ocean waters north of the Carolina's because of the protected position of the island. The end of September also brings the change of the fall leaves and the bounteous harvest from the fields.

The space

We are offering non simultaneous swaps of our home for the months of June and September, trading preferably for the months of January to March. Winter is very snowy and cold here and many of the restaurants and tourism establishment are closed, so June and September are far better months to come. We have two suites in the house separated by locked doors. It is not sound proof, but allows for lots of privacy and the bonus is that you have instant friends next door! As you enter the suite by your own private door, you are admitted into a quaint front entrance. To the right is a door opening up to a large sitting room with big screen TV and one of the full baths. There is a well stocked kitchenette with microwave, toaster, fridge, kettle, induction plate, and counter top oven as well as a sink and washer dryer unit. There is also a BBQ outside for use. The suite offers 3 bedrooms upstairs, 2 with queen beds and 1 with 2 twins. There is a sitting area off the main bedroom , as well as a small nursery with a crib and another full bathroom up stairs. The bathrooms are dated, but clean and functional. Lots of towels available and bedding as needed.

Guest access

You would have access to the suite door through an electronic pin pad for easy access. You would also have access to the 4 acres of land surrounding us, including a fire pit, and forested area. We have many beautiful trees that provide a nice protected, private space.

Notes

There may be other guests staying on the other side of the house during your stay, so all outside soaces will be shared including the BBQ.

Neighbourhood

Our neighbours are farms and we enjoy walks down the country roads to see horses, fields and the ocean. You can enjoy walks down "memory lane" which happens to be right next to our house. There are a number of good restaurants tucked in various spots minutes from the house and Kensington and Summerside offer more still, 10 and 25 minutes from our house respectively. The famous Anne of Green Gables house in about 20 minutes away with many other attractions near by. The beaches, my personal favourite are a 5-10 minute drive and I will share my favourites with you! We can share other tidbits like good places for cliff jumping, kayaking and an island tradition the "ceilidh". Defined as a sottish or Irish kitchen party, these events are nightly throughout the island from June through October and are full of Celtic and traditional music and step dancing. Never a shortage of things to do on this island in the warmer months!!

Nearest airport

Charlottetown airport is 45 minutes away.

Getting around

We are not close to any public transit, so you would need a car. Our main grocery shopping is about 25 minutes away in Summerside, but there is also a smaller town, Kensington, with groceries about 10 minutes away. You can also access the confederation trail which is great for biking and walking in Kensington. We are about 45 minutes away from the airport in Charlottetown.
