General Overview
Just a few steps from the sand at Little Roaring Beach, this is the kind of Tasmanian beach shack people dream about — warm, honest and wonderfully welcoming. A place where you kick your shoes off at the door, breathe in the sea air, and settle into a slower rhythm. It’s the perfect Tasmanian escape!
The house has that classic coastal shack feel: soft sunlight, expansive blue water views and a lived-in warmth that makes you feel instantly at home. It’s cosy without being cramped, simple without being bare, yet so pleasantly comfortable that you’ll never want to leave!
The beach shack is a wonderful base to explore Southern Tasmania, including the Hartz Mountains, Hastings Caves and Thermal Springs, Southport and Cockle Creek. Hobart which has been voted by Lonely Planet as one of the top ten destinations in the world, is only an hour's drive away. Our location makes a day trip to visit Salamanca Market and many other historic and cultural sites in and near Hobart, very accessible.
The Space
Inside, you’ll find relaxed open plan living, dining & kitchen with beachy styling — natural textures, comfy seating, and multiple spaces made for curling up with a book. Watch the ever-changing cloudscape over the water from the front deck with your favourite beverage then cook up a storm in the simple but amply equipped kitchen. Alternatively, throw together a picnic to enjoy on the beach! For the cooler months, there is an efficient wood heater to keep you toasty warm. Falling asleep to the waves lapping at the shore then waking to the glistening sun rising over the water is truly one of the special experiences in this southern Tasmanian sanctuary. If you’re lucky, you might even capture an Aurora!
The main bedroom with Queen bed is on the upper level, and overlooks the bay. A morning cuppa in bed with a stunning water view is a delightful way to start the day here.
Two further spacious bedrooms are downstairs - one with king single bed (and a piano!), the other with twin single beds. The bathroom and separate toilet are also downstairs. The toilet is new but the rest of the bathroom is rustic , complete with very old claw foot bath and overhead shower. Hot water is guaranteed though and the toilet is a standard flushing system - luxurious compared to many of the surrounding original beach shacks! A washing machine and laundry trough are also housed in the bathroom.
Kayaks, boogie boards and fishing gear are available for your recreational use. Or simply explore our beach and others nearby, on foot.
Please not there is no television or WiFi in our home. This is intentional to immerse ourselves in the beautiful environment of nature. There are plentiful music CDs, board games, books and magazines or you can stream content from your own mobile device.
Guest Access
Access to the front door is via several steps. The back door entrance also has steps and an uneven surface.
The home is over two levels with internal stairs. Therefore, the property is not suitable for guests with mobility issues.
Notes
The beach shack has a rainwater tank which collects water off the roof. Waste water is treated via septic system. We are water-conserving in our daily habits and respectfully ask that you be conscious of this precious limited resource, during your stay.

Neighbourhood
Little Roaring Beach is a small, friendly community; a mixture of holiday shacks and permanent residents. It offers terrific coastal exploring via kayak or on foot - nearby Big Roaring Beach is easily accessible.
The town of Dover 10 mins drive away offers postcard views - sandy beaches and snow-tipped mountains in winter. The Huon Valley is known for farm gates , cider houses, vineyards and orchards. Other highlights in the Far South are:
• Hastings Caves and thermal springs
• Southport’s turquoise beaches
• the wild trails of the Southwest National Park
. dramatic dolerite peaks of the Hartz Mountains
. and the windswept beauty of the far-south coast, all the way to Cockle Creek.
Despite its small size, Dover has a welcoming, village feel — friendly locals, cafes, general store, and that relaxed, timeless atmosphere.
Getting to my home
Just over an hour’s drive by car from Hobart, through the picturesque Huon Valley.
The airport is a little further away, being 1.5 hours by car.
We had great communication with Serena from first contact.
We were also delighted to be able to meet as we crossed paths on our exchange.
The beach shack at Little Roaring Beach was lovely - very tastefully decorated, comfortable and spotlessly clean.
Dover was 10 minutes away and a fabulous central point for exploring the beautiful far south.
We thoroughly enjoyed our exchange and would be very happy to do it again
Serena and her son stayed at our home as part of a non-sim exchange.
This was a smooth and easy experience as possible.
The arrangements were made quickly. The pre-exchange communications were effective and efficient.
Everything went as planned.
The apartment was left spotless and the gift she gave us was much appreciated.
We would welcome her back any time and are looking forward to a few days at her home in Tassie next year.
We could not fault Serena and Albert as guests.
They took great care of our home and left it spotless.
This was their first exchange and I couldn't recommended them highly enough as exchange partners
Feedback for Tracey·Non-Simultaneous exchange·5 nights
Tracey and Jay’s home is an absolute delight - beautifully furnished and decorated, very well appointed with everything you could possibly need and in the heart of a vibrant beachside community with generous amenities. Access to the coastal walking track was fabulous as was proximity to supermarkets. Don’t feel like cooking? With so many eateries on your doorstep, you are spoilt for choice with places to eat out.
Thank you Tracey and Jay for your warm hospitality, excellent communication and generosity of hosting us in your special home. A mid-winter sunny Queensland break was exactly what we needed and your destination didn’t disappoint!
We thoroughly enjoyed our time in Lesley’s home. It is exquisite in every way - spacious, very comfortable, easy walking distance to the town centre and with incredible views.
A perfect base for exploring the beautiful North West region of Tasmania, this home is everything you could wish for in an exchange!
Feedback for Lesley·Simultaneous exchange·5 nights
Lesley was very prompt in responding to initial messages and her communication as we finalised details of the exchange was excellent. We were very grateful for the support we felt from Lesley in helping us navigate setting up our very first exchange. It was lovely to meet Lesley & Phil enroute to our simultaneous exchange and they would be very welcome as guests in our home again. Highly recommended - 10/10 exchangers! Thank you Lesley & Phil!
