General Overview
Peaks Island is part of the lively city of Portland. The quick ferry ride over makes it feel worlds apart though! We love having meals or sitting on the large covered porch on the first floor, or having a glass of wine on the second story deck while watching the boats going by in the bay! We love island living combined with Peaks’ easy access to Portland and all it has to offer. Biking or walking around the island is something we especially enjoy. We occasionally enjoy exploring the Maine seacoast’s art museums, iconic lighthouses, and quaint small towns.
The Space
On the first floor is the sunny living room (natural light is important to one of us!) The kitchen is well equipped (we enjoy cooking). There are two full baths. We spend most of our time on the large front porch or upstairs deck in the warmer weather because we enjoy being outside whenever possible. The eat-in-kitchen and dining room are also on the first floor. We have two bedrooms upstairs, both with queen beds. The main bedroom has some limited waterviews in the summer and much better views once the leaves come down. There is a full bath with a tub on the second floor. The first floor bathroom has a walk in shower. In addition to the front porch, there is a deck on the back for those who enjoy basking in the sun.
Guest Access
There are steps to get into the house and then a full flight of stairs to get to the bedrooms located on the second floor.
To get to Peaks Island, Casco Bay Lines provides almost hourly ferry service until about 11 pm. The ferry accommodates both pedestrians and vehicles.
Notes
PLU only has the 0-2 or 2 and older category for children. The stairs have a turn at the bottom. So the stairs would not be ideal for kids who haven’t fully mastered climbing stairs.
Likewise for anyone who has concerns about climbing steeper stairs or stairs with a turn.

Portland is a smaller city (68,000) with a lively downtown created by it popularity as a tourist destination, a gastronomic hub, and numerous art galleries. The northeastern part of the United States tends to be liberal, as does coastal Maine, and Portland, Maine is definitely a liberal/progressive city. Peaks Island is a very progressive oriented community.

People Like Us Local Guide
What we can offer of course depends on our availability, but we're always happy to assist with questions about the area, suggestions on interesting things to do, favorite places to go, and potentially meet up to also hear about your travels experiences. One of us is a tour guide with a local bicycle shop (so he can easily do this local guide thing 🙂).
