General overview

The home fronts on the Delaware River between Yardley, and Washington Crossing, PA. It backs onto the canal with miles of bike riding incl. the bike lane to New Jersey. We kayak & swim in the river, and hike on its islands. It's like being on permanent holiday & yet it’s so close to big cities. NY City is 1.2 hours north by train from Hamilton Station, NJ, Philly is 45 minutes south by train from Yardley. Princeton is 25 mins by car. The Jersey Shore is 1 hour, the Poconos Mountains 1.5, and Washington, DC 3 hours. We love this home so much we have kept it despite spending an increasing amount of time in Columbus to be close to our grandkids.

The space

The house is small and cozy but a little on the rustic side. It actually has three bedrooms, but we’d prefer to swap with one couple. Location is everything. 1.4 acres on the river at the front and the canal at the back. Bucks County is beautiful. Our guests are amazed by this secret part of the US. The little towns up the river are a lot like England with a strong Quaker influence. It's hard to believe you're so close to dynamic cities. We have been gratified by the amazing, generous, kind, interesting people we met on home swaps on Homeforexchange before Covid. We joined PLU just as Covid started but we are now starting to swap again. We have traveled widely and love authentic travel rather than tourism. I hope to spend more time in Asia, Africa, and Europe but realistically, we will probably have to stay closer to home because of grandkid demands, e.g. Canada, Costa Rica, Mexico, etc.

Guest access

Two floors plus basement. There is a gazebo and hammock on the riverbank in season and occasionally we put up a tent and camp down there. We bike ride on the canal paths and kayak on the river. We also cross-country ski occasionally along the canal or downhill ski in the Poconos. The bike path over the bridge into New Jersey is a great asset as it opens up a lot more canal paths and a water jump.

Getting to my home

Airports below. Train from NY City to Hamilton Station or from Philly to Yardley. Sometimes our friends will pick you up at the station or Uber is readily available.

Nearest airport

Philadelphia, and Newark. West Trenton for domestic flights.

Getting around

We are convenient to both Newark (EWR) and Philly airports. Trenton Airport is even closer and often less expensive if you can get a flight on Frontier. JFK is quite a hassle, depending on traffic. We have bikes available. We have swapped cars in the past but car rental in the US is inexpensive and we’d prefer that as we often have our cars in Columbus.
