General Overview

Enjoy our front porch looking out at the waterway at the end of our street, or our private back patio surrounded by trees. Our home has an open floor plan with lots of sunlight. Bikes, kayaks, (and possibly golf cart) available for fun. 10 minute drive to St. Augustine Beach, and 15 minute drive to historic downtown St. Augustine. 2 hour drive to Disney World and Universal Studios (Orlando). Lots to do in our town and surrounding areas!

The Space

Our home is around 1600 square feet, with 3 bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms. However, we leave one bedroom closed off for PLU exchanges, so only 2 bedrooms are available for our PLU guests. One is the master bedroom with queen bed and attached full bathroom with shower (no tub). The second bedroom is a child bedroom with a twin trundle bed. The main twin bed has a comfortable mattress that even an adult could use, just keep in mind it is only a twin size. The pullout bottom trundle bed has a thinner mattress that is more suitable for a child, not as comfortable for a large adult. Our home has an open floor plan, with the living room leading into the kitchen, then leading into the dining room. We have plenty of windows, making our home sunny and bright. We have a fireplace that is not available to use, so please do not use it. We have HD smart TVs, one in the living room, and one in the master bedroom. Our fully fenced back patio has a pergola with lights, a grill, umbrella covered outdoor table and chairs, garden bed with Florida native pollinator plants (you will see butterflies and bees). The patio leads to our garage, where we have a golf cart that may be used by our PLU guests if we discuss it ahead of time. There is a lovely view of the intracoastal waterway at the end of our street, which you can see from our front porch. The porch is covered, with two chairs and a small couch and side table. Enjoy your morning coffee or evening tea out on the porch or patio. You will certainly see pollinators (birds, bees, butterflies, and sometimes hummingbirds) in our many Florida native plants around the front yard, side yard, and back patio garden bed. Our street is not directly on the water, but from our front porch, you can see the waterway at the end of our street. Enjoy a lovely stroll or bike ride or golf cart ride along the waterfront. We have 3 adult kayaks available, and 1 child kayak available. The boat ramp is right around the corner from our street, about half a mile away.

Guest Access

Single story, but you must use the staircase (with 4 steps) to enter either through the front door or back door. There is no ground-level entry, no wheelchair ramp.

Notes

We have 1 dog who will not be at our home during your visit. While we of course have the house cleaned before visitors, if you are extremely allergic to dog fur, our home would not be a good fit, in case there is any lingering dander on the couch or something. We also have 2 indoor/outdoor cats. They only sleep in our air-conditioned garage at night though; they will not sleep inside the house with our guests. Guests have the option to either feed the cats themselves, as well as close them inside the garage in the evening, then let the cats out of the garage in the morning. OR, if you prefer not to have this responsibility, we can arrange for our neighbor friends to tend to the cats so you don't have to; they would simply have to access our driveway and garage during your stay so they can tend to the cats in the evening and morning. One cat is very friendly and social, the other is scared of strangers and will likely want to stay away from guests.

Neighbourhood

We have a big safe, nice neighborhood. It is not an HOA, no guard gates. There are many streets, and the main long perimeter road goes on for a few miles, right along the Matanzas River intracoastal waterway. You can take a very long walk for as long as you'd like, (many miles between the main perimeter waterfront road, plus the many intersecting cross streets between), or use our bikes, or possibly use our electric golf cart if we discuss it ahead of time. There is a Wawa gas station toward the center of our neighborhood out by US-1, which would be too far to walk to, but you could ride bikes or ride the golf cart there for fun. Popular convenient places located close to our home: Walmart (less than 1 mile away) Publix (1 mile away) Target (2 miles away) Wawa gas station (1 mile away) Beach: 10 minute drive Historic downtown: 15 minute drive (or much longer if during Nights of Lights in December, when downtown gets very crowded).

Getting to my home

Closest airports: Jacksonville (JAX) - 1 hour drive Orlando airport (MCO) - 2 hour drive Our home is about 15 minutes from major highway I-95. From any airport, get off I-95 to get onto US-1. Our neighborhood is easily accessed turning off of US-1 onto Shore Drive, zip code 32086.

Getting Around

If you rent a car from the airport or from Enterprise car rental (which is less than 1 mile from our house), you can easily get around anywhere. Also Uber and Lyft are always readily available all around St. Augustine and surrounding areas.

Hi! We're Ellen and Eric, from beautiful St. Augustine, Florida. We have two kids, a dog, and two cats. We recently joined People Like Us, and we're excited to continue hosting and traveling! We are clean, tidy, respectful people who will take care of your home (and pets if needed), just as we would like you to take care of ours. The dog will not be at our home during your stay. Only the two cats will be here during your stay, and you can choose to either tend to them yourself (feed them two times per day, and close them inside the air-conditioned garage for overnight), OR we can have our neighbor friends tend to our cat care if you don't want to. Our home is close to beautiful beaches, historic downtown, historic monuments, state parks, lighthouse, amphitheater concert venue, restaurants, weekly farmers markets, boat ramps, and more. St. Augustine is a popular travel destination, so we encourage you to look it up online to learn about all there is to do here. The famous Nights of Lights runs from late November through around mid-January. During the month of September, downtown St. Augustine is extremely busy. We live about 10-15 minutes from downtown. About 8-10 minutes drive to the beach. The Matanzas River intracoastal waterway is right at the end of our street, you can see it from our porch. We have lived here our whole lives basically, so we are happy to give you recommendations and local tips.
