General Overview

This 17th century historic home in Spaarndam (from the Hans Brinker story) is located on the oldest still working waterlock in Europe dating back to the 1200's. When the house came up for sale, we immidiately planned a viewing and fell in love with the location. After an extensive renovation whcih lasted almost 2 years, we now have a historical home equipped with all the modern day comforts such as underfloor heating, fiberoptic internet and thermal and sound insulation throughout the whole house. We renovated the house with the idea that it had to be as comfy as we could get it to raise our children. Where a lot of historical details were lost in previous renovations we tried to showcase what we could save. such as the old beams and the sliding window at the front of the house.

The Space

On the ground floor, you’re welcomed by a stylish hallway with a toilet. Through the striking bronze coloured high steel door, you enter the heart of the house: the dining area, offering a stunning view of the historic waterlock, which operates only in summer weekends thanks to a team of dedicated volunteers. A curved wall corridor with again a steel door in the middle at which behind you can find a staircase and wardrobe area. the formentioned corridor (when not entering the wardrobe/staricase) will guide you into the fully equipped kitchen. Here you’ll find everything from an induction cooktop with integrated fan, steam oven, combi microwave, fridge, freezer, dishwasher, KitchenAid, Quooker (boiling, sparkling, and chilled water straight from the tap), to a high-end semi-automatic coffee machine. The kitchen also houses a laundry area with a washing machine, dryer, and ironing station. At the rear of the house, in the narrower section, you’ll find our cozy lounge area — complete with a large, comfy sofa, TV, and HiFi system. Thanks to the skylight and expansive glass panels, the natural light at dawn and dusk is simply spectacular. Moving through those doors you'll find our long and narrow garden which we are currently landscaping. The garden will have a lounge area and has a BBQ if you are in a grilling mood. The first floor features 2 bedrooms, 1 double bedroom for the kids and 1 master bedroom. The small but functional bathroom is equiped wit a shower and a small bath, this floor also features a seperate toilet. 2nd floor or the attic is of limits for guests.
