General Overview

About Us: We are a couple from New Zealand who own and manage Lodge by the Beach – a boutique luxury retreat in the Abel Tasman region. We are a calm, non-smoking couple. We don’t host parties and enjoy a quiet lifestyle. Most of the time we travel just the two of us, but sometimes our 15-year-old son joins us. We are happy to offer our lodge in exchange — either to a couple or to a family with adult children (please note we cannot accommodate children under 15, as the property is located on a cliff). Our lodge is located right on the coast with private beach access and panoramic ocean views. We host guests from all over the world and take pride in creating a relaxing, luxury experience with gourmet dining prepared by our private chef. I can provide more details in private messages if needed. We are flexible and open to discussing different options. We’d love to hear from you.

The Space

Four architect-designed suites, each on its own level for privacy and space. Every suite features ocean views, super king-size beds with soft 100% cotton bedding, and curated art. All-inclusive dining – gourmet breakfast and a four-course dinner by our Michelin-recognised private chef, with a light lunch available on request at no extra charge. Welcome touches – fresh flowers, fine New Zealand chocolate, berries, and a bottle of each guest’s favourite drink in the suite. Private path to a large beach, with complimentary kayaks and paddleboards. Natural spring water throughout the lodge, including every shower and tap. Organic New Zealand-made bath and skincare products in every bathroom. High-speed Wi-Fi (250 Mbps+) with Netflix, Disney+ and Sky TV. Complimentary golf equipment – golf clubs available for guest use at nearby courses. Regular housekeeping, guest laundry, and on-site parking.

  • Where to start: Amazing. Idyllic. Peaceful. Luxurious. Uber comfortable. And the views: just stunning. As are the gardens. As is the private access to a secluded beach, where gently lapping waves soothe and please. Honestly the pictures, fabulous though they are, simply do not do justice to what is truly a world-class view. We were lucky enough to swap for 10 days and just did not want to leave. The serenity, the facilities, and 4 beautiful ensuite rooms to choose from – the Penthouse Suite where we stayed is truly gorgeous, as are the other three rooms. The owners, Alan and Luba, are just the nicest people, excellent company and truly hospitable. Excellent communication from start to finish, the car swap worked perfectly and they left our home better than they found it. We hired Tony, Alan and Luba’s private chef for a couple of nights while we were there. He produced food of the highest calibre, with canapes served al fresco by the firepit (real deal or gas-fired? you decide) with views to die for. Starters, mains and desserts would grace any high end restaurant. A truly memorable experience, we cannot recommend Alan and Luba highly enough. Their home is truly special, we feel privileged to have been able to swap with them. If you get the chance, grab it with both hands, you won’t regret it.
