General Overview
Experience Sarajevo living in this beautifully renovated 1-bedroom apartment in a Yugoslavian era apartment block in the neighborhood of Koševsko Brdo. Completely updated within the last four years, this modern and colorful home offers the perfect blend of contemporary comfort and Bosnian charm.
Perched on a scenic hillside, you'll wake up to sunshine (unless you close the black out curtains) and have the chance to experience daily local life. The thoughtfully designed space features a comfortable king-sized bed and a convenient pull-out sofa, making it ideal for couples or small families seeking to visit Sarajevo.
Location couldn't be better for exploring like a local - you're just 2 blocks from a neighborhood café where you can enjoy Bosnian coffee alongside residents, and only 3 blocks from all daily essentials: grocery store, pharmacy, post office, bakery, and a Halal butcher. The apartment sits in a predominantly local area, so you’ll have the chance to decompress away from the tourist crowds. There's a small park with play area just a block away and a co-working space on the lower level of our apartment building!
For sightseeing, you're perfectly positioned with most major museums and many historical sites within a pleasant 30-minute walk through the safe and bustling city streets. When you need a break from walking, a convenient bus stop is just half a block away from the apartment and connects you to the wider city.
The Space
The space features:
-Bedroom with a King Size bed and ample closet space. There's also a ceiling fan, should you like to keep the air moving. The bedroom has a small balcony looking out on Koševsko Brdo and the neighborhood mosque - perfect for taking in a bit of daily life or drying your laundry!
-Bathroom with a step-in shower and ample storage space.
-Living/dining room with a 4 person dining table, pull-out sofa and large screen tv perfect for streaming. We also have our "work" area - two desks where you can get work done or plan your adventures. We have wifi and wired internet available. And enjoy some of the books in Bosnian that you can find on our shelves. This room also has air conditioning.
-The kitchen features everything you could need to cook or bake during your visit including a stove/oven, microwave, electric kettle, air fryer, food processor/blender, dishwasher, and a clothes washer.
Guest Access
The apartment is located on the ground floor of the building, however there are about 15 steps you will need to climb up and down to enter the building and reach the ground floor.
The front door has a code we will provide you, and there will be a lockbox next to the apartment that stores its keys.
Please also note that Brdo means hill. Our apartment is located on top of one. Perfect for anyone looking to get some steps in during their visit, but not super easy for folks with mobility limitations.
Notes
We love this apartment and it's where we started our relationship and marriage! We hope that it is a place that provides you with comfort and joy during your visit to Sarajevo!
Our cousins run a tour agency called Cheyf! They offer tours in both English and German. If you are looking to book tours or need help planning your visit, we highly recommend checking them out at: https://cheyf.ba/

Neighbourhood
Koševsko Brdo is a neighborhood of locals! Emir grew up here and his family still lives 3 blocks away. We're right across the street from a small park where elders chat and children play, and across the street from the neighborhood mosque (so you may hear the call to prayer - though we've provided a white noise machine so hopefully not). The apartment is just 2 blocks from a neighborhood café where you can enjoy Bosnian coffee alongside residents, and only 3 blocks from all daily essentials: grocery store, pharmacy, post office, bakery, and a Halal butcher. There's a small park with play area just a block away and a co-working space on the lower level of our apartment building! The bus stop is 1/2 a block down. It's easy to walk to nearby neighborhoods with more extensive restaurant, cafe, and shopping options like Ciglane and Marjin Dvor (where the Sarajevo City Center mall is located).
Getting to my home
Sarajevo Airport (SJJ) has a growing number of connections through major airlines (Lufthansa, Austrian, Swiss and Turkish are the big ones) as well as discount flights (Wizz Air). What's available varies depending on the season. If you're flying in, let us know, and we'll connect you to a trustworthy driver who can pick up you and your luggage and get it to the apartment! (Airport taxis here are notorious for taking advantage of tourists).
In terms of train access, we're walkable from the main bus and train stations (though it is uphill). Currently, the train only connects to Mostar, BiH (well worth the trip) and Ploče in Croatia. Centrotrans is the major provider of bus service in the region.

Getting Around
Our apartment is easy to get to and from via walking, bus, and the local scooter company called Bin Bin. Taxis in Sarajevo (aside from at the airport) are very affordable, and pretty easy to request using the MojTaxi app (even for those who don't speak Bosnian). If you are driving, you'll have to fend for yourself to find street parking - and for most visitors there isn't a great need for a car to enjoy the city.

View of the dining area and living room (including the pull out couch and tv with streaming). The far wall are all storage closets.
A bit of street art just down the road from our apartment in Koševsko Brdo.
The bedroom features a king sized bed.
There's plenty of light in the bedroom - it leads to a small balcony. But, you can also close the window shudders and blackout curtains for a good night's sleep.
Drying racks on the balcony!
The small hallway outside the bedroom and bathroom has a second mirror and dressing table that is perfect for getting ready in the morning.
The bathroom features a walk in shower.
Dining area and gallery wall!
We have two desks for getting work done or planning your adventures. Feel free to check out the books on the shelves. And the living room does have air con/heating for when it's needed.
View of the work area and living room couch (which pulls out). The posters on the right are from local design shop Molimao and are inspired by Sarajevo.
We fully renovated the kitchen in 2024! And it should feature everything you need for cooking at home.
We have a microwave, air fryer, dishwasher, and a clothes washer!
There's also a blender/food processor, and stove and oven.
Our entrance hall - like many Bosnian homes - provides a great space for taking your shoes off. We all have a closet for more shoes and jackets and items on the right side. The paper flowers over the door were made by Alison for her and Emir's wedding.

A view of the Hum Tower and the local mosque from just up the hill from our apartment.
Our apartment is only a 10-15 minute walk to the Olympic Stadium, Avaz Tower. and Ciglane and Marjin Dvor neighborhoods. If you walk 30 minutes you will find yourself in the City's Old Town (Stari Grad) and Baščaršija or at some of its best known museums and Wilson's Walk.
You can also take the bus which picks you up 1/2 a block from the apartment and runs every half hour on week days. It will take you right to the old town, or the tram where you can connect to anywhere in the city!
