General Overview
Literally my dream sketched onto a napkin and made real in 2013, my 500 square foot tiny home is both modern and luxurious. Filled with a selection of Indigenous Canadian art, nestled into the forest and steps from the ocean on Canada's west coast, it is a perfect escape. It is - without a doubt - my happy place, and I'd love to share it with like-minded people.
The Space
My house sits on a forested half acre, a few minutes walk from the ocean. It's amazing what will fit into a smaller space! I have a full kitchen with 8 foot long island, a 10 foot long sectional sofa with lounge in the living room, a king sized bed, and a standard 5x7 foot bathroom with a shower built for two. The ceilings are 10 feet tall and there are 8 foot tall sliding glass doors across the entire front of the house overlooking the deck. This, along with the large kitchen and bathroom windows make the home feel quite spacious.
Guest Access
This property has a steep non-paved driveway - 4 wheel drive vehicles only, From the car park area there is a short foot path the rest of the way up to the house. This property is unfortunately not suitable for people who have mobility issues.
Notes
If you are an outdoor enthusiast, this place is for you! I have a one mountain bike, a two-person sea kayak and one stand up paddleboard (SUP). There are also outfitters on the coast where you can rent additional equipment or join fishing charters or other tours.
There are plenty of trails nearby, as well as lakes and the ocean. It is common to see a lot of wildlife - eagles, ravens, woodpeckers, hummingbirds, deer, elk, and sometimes black bears.
My house is right near the ferry to Powell River which is the gateway to Desolation Sound as well as one of the world's best hut to hut hikes!

Neighbourhood
My house is located in a rural setting. The nearest town (Madeira Park) with a large grocery store, liquor store, shops, etc. is a 20 minute drive away. There is a smaller village (Egmont) only 7km away from my house with a marina that has a small selection of essential goods, and a few restaurants.
Getting to my home
Although my property is on the mainland, you will need to take a ferry to get to the Sunshine Coast. From Vancouver you will take the 1 hour crossing to Gibsons. When you depart the ferry, it takes approximately 1.5 hours to drive to my property. The drive is beautiful, going through a few towns with all modern amenities and a vibrant arts scene.
Nearest airport
Vancouver International Airport
Getting Around
You will need to rent a car - or arrange to borrow mine - in order to access my property. There is public transportation, but only from Vancouver to Sechelt. Sechelt is approximately 1 hour away by car from my house.
There is no Uber or Taxi service on the Sunshine Coast.

Hello! I'm a newly empty-nester, adventure seeker. Almost retired with a completely virtual career in management consulting, have great references and will treat your home like my own. I love art, design, architecture and prefer to either be in the middle of nowhere or right in the middle of all that a city has to offer. I grew up on a farm and will happily care for your pets and critters.
People Like Us is the world's most trusted home exchange community. We believe in sharing, trust, generosity, respect, communication, equality, cooperation, honesty, hospitality, friendship, flexibility and adventure. We take pride in our homes and we care about the environment in which we live: our village, city, country and our planet. We care about the ethos of home exchange and we do it because we love the experience and the friendships that it generates.
