General Overview
Our home is on the beautiful Isle of Bute. It is our sanctuary and a calm place.
The flat is called the Crow's Nest. It is on the top floor of a traditional Scottish tenement building, giving unobstructed views across the Kyles of Bute.
The Space
It is a 2 bed flat, with a kitchen diner and one bathroom.
There are 2 bedrooms with 2 double beds and one sofa bed in the living room. We are planning on making our daughters room more distinctly into a child's bedroom soon, so it wouldn't be appropriate for an adult, despite the double bed.
There is an oven, air fryer, kettle, hob and other bits and bobs in the kitchen, including some beautiful ceramics that we love
The bathroom is simple with a bath and a shower over the top. I will add pictures when we next go back there and take some.
There is a shared garden on a slope, a drying green as they call it in Scotland.
We are not currently there, so the pictures I have added are from my camera reel. Hence why the pictures of the kitchen change as we make changes over the years! We will add our availability once we go back there and get it ready for guests
Guest Access
It is on the third floor and there are around 40 steps up to the flat.

Neighbourhood
Port Bannatyne is a village. There is a post office with a cafe, a community run pub and a restaurant that is open during peak seasons. There is also a small playground.
There are walks into the woods at the back, to Ettrick bay, to Rothesay or on the West Island Way.
Our flat has views to the marina and across bay.
Bute has 2 ferries. The south ferry takes you to Wemyss Bay with easy access to Glasgow. The North takes you to Collintraive and into the Scottish Highlands and the Argyle Secret Coastal Route. There is also the stunning Portavadie Spa, with an outdoor infinity pool looking across the sea.
Bute has the magnificent Mount Stuart, an outstanding example of the Arts and Crafts movement with extensive grounds and a beautiful sandy beach.
Bute's greatest draw is it's rich diversity of beaches. There are so many beaches to choose from and all within 40 minutes round trip of the island. Ettrick Bay, 5 minutes drive, and Scalpsie Bay, 20 minutes drive, are our favourites.
The woods are ancient and rich here also. You can spend days just wandering these. The ancient oak forest at the North is beautiful.
Rothesay the main town has lots of cafes and has Bute Yard for drinks out in a contemporary setting, but if you are into pubs, there are lots of those to go to as well.
Getting to my home
You get to Bute by ferry from Wemyss Bay to Rothesay. You get to Wemyss Bay either by road or easily by train from Glasgow. The ferries are timed with arrival of the train.
Getting Around
There is a regular bus service on Bute that you can use to access the whole island. If you come by car the island is very easy to navigate and you drive around it in about 40 minutes.

We are a family of 3. Emma, Matthew and Fern.
We are experienced travellers and travel often in our campervan that we built. We are very excited about the opportunity to exchange homes and we are excellent guests and would be responsible stewards of any home.
People Like Us is the world's most trusted home exchange community. We believe in sharing, trust, generosity, respect, communication, equality, cooperation, honesty, hospitality, friendship, flexibility and adventure. We take pride in our homes and we care about the environment in which we live: our village, city, country and our planet. We care about the ethos of home exchange and we do it because we love the experience and the friendships that it generates.
