Hospitality Description: When we host you, you will stay in our beautiful downstairs 'apartment', which is its own studio-type space with separate entry and bathroom. It is a large room (pictured in the last five photos on our listing) that opens to our back garden. The apartment has a simple kitchen set-up (kettle, toaster, fridge and outdoor BBQ). We prefer that people don't cook hot meals inside but will provide you with what you need to cook on the outdoor BBQ. The bathroom, which is beautifully renovated, is located in our garage (a little strange, we know!), and also opens to the back garden. You will have access to our laundry where you can also wash your clothes and dishes. Most importantly, you will have access to us (we are very helpful!). While we live upstairs and prefer to keep some separation when people stay downstairs, we also spend a lot of time in our garden and try to make ourselves available to guests. We enjoy having guests upstairs for a meal or two, if they have time during their stay, or for a drink around the campfire. Come stay in our beautiful desert home!

General Overview

We live in a roomy two-storey home not lacking in light, air or objects of beauty. The upstairs has three bedrooms (one of these is a child's room), large living room and kitchen. Downstairs is a further sleeping and living space - a studio with high ceilings - a newly renovated bathroom and entry to back garden. When we host, guests typically stay downstairs. We have a sprawling native garden, laying hens and spacious decks with views of Mount Gillen. The garden is irrigated, we have solar energy (with battery) and a large fire-pit with plenty of wood for cooler winter evenings. The house is situated in one of the western suburbs of Alice Springs and the town of Alice is easily accessible (about 5 minutes) by car, as are various Indigenous art galleries in Ciccone, the industrial area. Alice is the perfect base from which to explore the East and West Macdonnell Ranges, in addition to being a welcome stopover or starting point on the Red Centre Trail. Make sure to include it in your itinerary because it is a special, vibrant place that will give you further insights into the auspicious and culturally diverse place that is Central Australia.

Fiona

We are a small family - myself, my husband Mike and our two-year old son Harvey - based in the heart of Australia, Alice Springs. We are spontaneous, adventurous people who spend most of our time outdoors, but also value the comforts of a home. We have been home exchanging for approximately two years now (although are new to PLU) and are drawn to the community of people that we have been introduced to through these encounters. I am originally German and as such, we find ourselves in Germany/Europe every few years. We also speak both German and English in our home. We have a spacious house in the desert with a large garden, chickens and bees. We love to host but would also consider direct exchanges with a bit of notice. Please get in touch!
