Hospitality
Hospitality Description: Need somewhere to stay in Brisbane? Then drop us a line. We have a spare room that's all yours.
Both Colin and Rose work during the week and Harlan is only out at daycare for 3 days, so showing you around on a Monday to Friday isn't so easy. But if you're about on the weekend then we can certainly help out.
We always have a family meal in the evening, which you're welcome to join us for, or grab whatever you fancy from the supermarket and use our kitchen.

Neighbourhood
You’ll find our house nestled in a warren of homes, in a safe residential area made up mainly of families. Across the road is a large green space that’s home to three play areas for the little ones, a 1-on-1 basket ball court for the older ones, and a peaceful creek and rainforest boardwalk for those of an age to appreciate the quieter moments in life.
We’re also close to a nature reserve where you’ll find a handful of trails through bushland, along with the reserve education centre which regularly runs events and walks for all ages. They also have an epic nature-inspired playground and senses trail.
What else does Chermside have to offer?
• Outdoor public BBQs in several nearby parks.
• A massive Westfields shopping centre, full of restaurants, cinemas, shops, an arcade and bowling.
• Great cafes, local grocery store and take out restaurants.
Catch the bus (for 50c) and you'll be in the city in 20 minutes. Hit the shops in Queen Street Mall, explore the gorgeous Roma Street Park landscape, City Botanics, or stroll along the South Bank and Cultral Centre.
Brisbane is also home to Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary, The Gabba sportsground (cricket and AFL), and Suncorp Stadium (NRL, rugby union and big music concerts.)
Ah biscuits! And I almost forgot – we’re a 20-minute drive or taxi to Bluey World.
If you have a car, you’ll also be able to get yourself to:
• Australia Zoo (Steve Irwin's place) - 45 minute drive.
• The Sunshine Coast (for stunning beaches) - 60 minute drive.
• The Gold Coast (more amazing beaches and Surfer's Paradise) - 60-90 minute drive.
There’s heaps more I could write about. Like your proximity to whale watching, hikes into the Queensland hinterland, heading up to Mt Coot-tha on the night of a full moon with a picnic… But we’d be here forever. If you’re uhhming and ahhing about Brisbane as a destination, drop me a line with the type of trip you hav in mind and I can tell you if Brisbane delivers. (Most of the time it will.)
Nearest airport
Brisbane Airport has domestic and international terminals. We're a 20-25 minute drive away. If getting a cab, it's not necessary to take the toll roads to get to ours. (And we suggest mentioning this to the cabbie.)
Getting Around
There’s a lot to enjoy in our area that’s within walking distance. For example, it’s only a 15-minute walk to get down to Westfield. A 10-minute walk through the park will get you to a lovely local café, and a 10-minute walk through the houses will get you to a small shopping precinct with metro supermarket, a local butcher and fruit and veg store, post office and some take away restaurants. (Curry, Thai, pizza, sushi, chicken.)
While we love the buses for city trips, seeing all that Brisbane has to offer will take more than bus routes. It’s also worth checking out the trains or driving.

Rose, Colin and Harlan were wonderful guests in our home! They were friendly and considerate and the house was left extremely clean and tidy. We would recommend them to anyone looking to exchange or offer a hospitality stay.
Rose and her family were absolutely no problem at all :) Great communication with them before, during and after their stay in our home. It was lovely to see their family enjoying the local area in a few pictures!
The house was left spotless :) and they were kind enough to leave us a few goodies for our return home! Rose and family had even kindly folded the dry laundry that I had forgotten to put away when leaving the house for their stay!
We would be delighted to welcome them back to Caerphilly again, and look forward to our exchange with them in their house in (hopefully) the not so distant future!
It was a pleasure to host Rose, Colin and Harlan in our home in Cambridge twice this summer. Rose communicated so well throughout and was very patient with me when I needed time to co-ordinate, change and confirm plans. It was clear that they took great care of our home and it was lovely to hear about all of the ways that they had enjoyed being there. We’re so glad to have been part of their epic UK adventure this year and we wish many more successful exchanges for them in the future!
Feedback for Rebecca·Hospitality exchange·4 nights
The swap with Becky and Joe was a hosted, 4 night arrangement. They very kindly opened their home to us during the UK school holidays, so we spent 2 days all hanging out together, then 2 nights just the 3 of us as they headed off for a Bank Holiday camping trip.
We recieved a very warm welcome with an offer of tea, coffee, or something stronger when we arrived, and dinner was ready to go. For Becky and her family to include us in their evening and mealtime plans even though we'd only just met was very kind and thoughtful.
Becky and Joe's three kids embraced Harlan into their games right away, and they took the time to show him around the house which helped him settle in.
The house itself was comfortable, and came with everything we needed for cooking, lounging in front of the TV and plenty of toys for Harlan to explore.
As we only had a few days there and the priority was to see friends, we didn't explore all Storrington has on offer. But we did take the time to sample the local tea rooms, nearby park and leisure centre, and we had a great day in Worthing, which is a short drive away.
We chatted with Joe and Becky and lot about travel in Australia. Hopefully we'll see them Down Under soon for another catch up. We'd be very happy to host the whole family.
Feedback for Sara·Non-Simultaneous exchange·10 nights
Colin and I visited Caerphilly a long time ago and were keen to explore more of the town and surrounding area on this trip, and show our 5 year old the castle.
Sara and Kyle's home is in a great location. It's on one of the main roads in and out of town, so getting to shops and the castle involved a short 15-20 minute walk. It was also an easy drive to nearby activities and sights such as Mountain Ranch, Collier's Farm and Cwmcarn forest drive.
Sara is a great communicator and really friendly. Setting up the swap was easy and during our 10 day stay we appreciated her approachability and responsiveness.
The house was very comfortable and finding bits and pieces we needed when cooking or cleaning up was easy. In short, we felt right at home.
Sara, Kyle and Oscar are a thoughtful, kind and generous family. We've really enjoyed getting to know them and hope to catch them Down Under in the coming years.
Feedback for Charlotte·Hospitality exchange·5 nights
This was our second stay at Charlotte and Adam's lovely home, and it was just as comfortable, warm, welcoming, clean and tidy as the first time.
Communication with Charlotte was easy and she kindly checked in with us to make sure we arrived safely.
Thanks Charlotte and family for another fabulous stay.
Feedback for Charlotte·Non-Reciprocal exchange·11 nights
Charlotte and Adam were one of the first families we contacted when trying to plan our 3 month UK trip. We felt a little awkward as we were completely new to house swapping, but we didn't need to worry. Charlotte is fantastically supportive - in terms of helping us arrange this swap but also when it comes to giving general pointers on how to succeed on PLU. We've been very thankful for her help.
The house itself is fantastic. Easy to get to from Heathrow and Charlotte's clear instructions meant getting in and finding our feet was a breeze. We felt comfortable and at home very quickly. (To the point that our 5am waker was sleeping through to 7am or later.)
There are lots of toys and activities for kids, which Harlan wasted no time getting into. Out in the garden is a large climbing frame and trampoline, which provided hours of activity and entertainment for Harlan, while Colin and I kicked back on the outdoor sofas with a chilled wine, enjoying the summer evening sun.
Inside the house, everything is labelled up. Colin is a keen cook, so he found this very helpful when navigating an unfamiliar kitchen.
The house guide provided extra information about the home and local area, which was handy to refer to so we could look after their home properly, but also provided inspiration when we felt indecisive about what to do.
When I did need to check in with Charlotte about something, she was very responsive and helpful.
The park over the road was an excellent extension when it came to easy entertainment for the little one, and the outdoor gym equipment gave me and Colin somewhere to work out.
We caught the bus to Cambridge most days to go and explore the city. Charlotte and Adam's house is really close to a P3 bus stop so getting in and out was quick.
We're already looking forward to a second stay there.
Thanks Adam and Charlotte for trusting us with your home and being so supportive.

Rose
Hiya, we are Rose, Colin and Harlan. A happy, adventurous family of three, ranging in age from 4 to mid-40s.
Colin is Australian and Rose is English. He works in cyber security and she is a copywriter. (It's sometimes easier just to say marketing.)
Before having a little one, we did a lot of travelling - around the UK, parts of Europe, across the Americas and back here in Australia. Since starting family life, we've kept our holidays mostly domestic (in Australia) but had the privilege of taking the kid to the UK when he was 2.
With school years approaching, we're hoping to do a mega trip to the UK before that kicks in. To show Harlan some more of the world, but also to be close to Rose's family during our extended holiday.
We’re yet to build up reviews and kudos on PLU, but the three of us are seasoned Airbnb-ers. Hosts have described us as “lovely house guests” who “respected house rules, leaving [the property] clean and tidy.” We’re also “easy to host” and “friendly and courteous.”
