General Overview

We are in the best kept secret of a big town! We live in a quiet north western suburb on the edge of Brisbane. It is 1.3 hours to the best beaches in the world (at least we think so), and 2 hours to the Gold Coast. Bushland, mountain bike and walking tracks are at our doorstep. The next suburb, Samford, has some of the best coffee shops and casual dining restaurants in Brisbane. It has a village feel to it and is the gateway to many bush walking trails. Our home is new, super clean and organized (ex-Airbnb Super host), with all the modern conveniences you could imagine for relaxing and enjoying the bush surroundings. If you are lucky a kookaburra will say hello to you on the upper deck, or you will hear the distinctive hop/thump sound of a kangaroo or wallaby as it hops by on the bush path at the bottom of our garden. We have over 27 species of birds that you can hear in the garden and bushland that we back on to.

The Space

The house is an open plan, relaxed living space. The outdoor upstairs and downstairs patios are large and inviting to sit on for all hours of the day. The house looks out over the public reserve that is part of a nature corridor. You can join the bush trail that passes by the edge of our property. There are no fences, barriers, or gates on much of the property, so it flows down into the nature reserve. So unfortunately that is also why we do not accomodate outdoor pets and we are allergic to indoor furry pets. Sorry! Each room was designed to have a view of the bushland next to it. We love the open spaces both indoors and on the spacious outdoor decks. Upstairs is all single level living with spacious lounge and dining areas. There's a guest toilet and an amazing galley kitchen and walk in pantry for you to use at any time. Also on the upper level is the media room and laundry with no steps to the clothes line. Downstairs has two beautifully refreshed bedrooms; one with a queen sized bed and the other with a single bed. The downstairs area has its own living small kitchenette (the upstairs kitchen is always accessible to cook up a storm) and dining areas and its own bathroom and toilet. Access to the downstairs patio is right outside the dining area. The internal staircase does not have a child safety gate on it, so it is not suitable for young toddling children. But older children are most welcome. Babies can be accommodated with our suitable toys, a high chair, potty and porta cot that we keep for such occasions and for the rare visiting grand babies (who sadly live interstate). So we are often travelling to see them. There is air conditioning in the bedrooms and living areas so you can stay cool all summer long. We have solar panels that can offset the electricity bills, but only during sunshine hours. The house catches the evening breezes and cools down rapidly.

Guest Access

Our home is a two storey house, with an internal flight of stairs and a shallow stepped path leading to the front door. Once inside on the top level there are no steps. There is amble off road parking for caravans or trailers in the double driveway, and usually room for one parked car in the garage, which can be negotiated during the booking process . You can also access the independent downstairs area via a sealed concrete path which is not particularly wheelchair friendly.

Notes

We have wooden floors in the upstairs living rooms and Lino on the downstairs living area. The bedrooms are carpeted, so whilst it is a low allergen house it is not hypo-allergenic. Our bush garden is home to many birds, lizards and other local native animals. We are happy to host families with babies and older children (who can safely climb stairs independently). We have board games, and fast internet for the online games, Netflix and free to air TV. As you will have your own independent living and bedroom areas we are happy to consider hosting at any time, just ask! Cleaning: if you are the house proud sort we can give you a list of what we'd like done, especially if we have back-to-back guests whilst we are away on our longer trips. Or we can engage a casual cleaner, who charges around AUD $200 if you'd prefer not to clean or change sheets etc.

Neighbourhood

We are located on the north-western part of Brisbane. We live in a bushland setting at the end of a very quiet cul de sac of a family orientated outer suburb. So you will find peace and quiet at most hours of the day and night, unless the resident curlews, kookaburras, or plovers chose to enthusiastically greet you in the morning. There are walking tracks, mountain bike trails and horse trails at our doorstep. We are not walking distance to the nearest shops, so you will bring a bike or a car, or catch an Uber. Woolies and Coles deliver to our door daily.

Getting to my home

It is best to drive to our home, as there is no public transport in the suburb. You can catch an Uber (Didi or Black & White cab) from the local suburban train station.

Nearest airport

Brisbane domestic and international airports are a 30-45 minute drive, depending on the time of day.

Getting Around

If we have not taken it, it is possible to use one of our cars with a supplement to the insurance. We are a 10 minute drive to Ferny Grove railway station. There is no public transport in our suburb as we are on the edge of Brisbane's north-western suburbia. So it is best if you have a car, van or motorbike.

People Like Us Local Guide

We love to chat to you on the decks or share a drink around our camp fire (if there is not a total fire ban). We can show you the local walking tracks, right outside our backyard! We can help plan your days’ sight seeing. If we have the time free we can join you on bike trail rides (if you have bikes you bring with you). We have e-bikes which we do not lend out. There is so much to see and do in our area.

We are a recently retired husband and wife who have a background in health care. We like to stay fit and love being outdoors. The kids have grown up and flown the coop. We love being active, involved grandparents and we enjoy travelling to see them (and the grand kids) and the beautiful world God has created. We are involved in humanitarian volunteer work and justice for all.
