General Overview
Our home is a very fun, colourful mid century renovation in a family friendly area of South East London. We worked with architects to turn our house into a playful, joyful space, creating a home full of pattern, colour, fun and joy, which was recently celebrated in national newspaper The Sunday Times, and design website Dezeen.
As you approach the house you’re met by a two tone purple facade with checkerboard tiled entrance and pink metal canopy, with pink windows that carry through to the back of the house where we have big double doors going onto the garden, a porthole window and corner windows that let in light at all times of day. We have an open plan kitchen/living space with patterned surfaces and bold pastel colours, and an incredibly comfortable big colourful sofa (which we keep covered with a throw to protect from sticky little hands!)
Joyful design and colour continue upstairs, with a purple and blue tiled bathroom with curved glass block shower, and hand painted abstract mural in the little one’s room, with warm orange tones creating a cocooning master bedroom.
We’re lucky to be surrounded by parks and cafes, shops and restaurants, with something for the grown ups as well as little visitors. With two young children ourselves, our home is set up for babies and small children, with a large cot available, playmat and lots of toys and books.
We have family living nearby who can have us stay so we’re always up for hosting in exchange for globes! If calendar isn’t updated please do message to check availability! We’re particularly looking for exchanges in UK seaside towns during the school holidays for 2026 but also open to swaps abroad with easy access to some form of water!
The Space
You enter the house into a wide hallway, with a colourful WC housed inside a curved wall at the end of the corridor. You then enter the closed off living area, coming into the living room which has a large sofa that comfortably fits 3 people, a smaller sofa and arm chair, TV (with access to Netflix etc) and toy cabinet which houses lots of lovely open ended toys including a wooden train set, Grimms building blocks and rainbow and magnetic blocks as well as lots of games and books. This room has lovely orange linen curtains which make the room glow in the evenings!
You then move into the dining/kitchen space which had an extendable mid century wooden dining table with 4 chairs and a toddler chair, before entering the kitchen space which features an island with two bar stools, 5 ring gas hob, oven, dishwasher and fridge freezer. The kitchen features bespoke resin terrazzo style patterned splashback and surfaces and zig zag natural Lino floor. The washing machine and tumble dryer are housed in a pantry with sliding door.
Upstairs you’ll find a newly renovated bathroom with walk in glass block shower, comfortable steel bath and colourful tiles.
The master bedroom has a super king size bed, dresser drawers and curtained wardrobe.
The second bedroom is partly used as storage so does have some boxes and other items, and has a double bed and makeshift desk (resourcefully built from boxes and cupboard door!) This room is in need of some TLC but still provides a comfortable space to get a good night sleep.
The little room has a raised single bed with small built in ladder and hand painted mural. A large cot can also be provided.
The gardens are currently being landscaped, due to be completed in the autumn. When finished, there will be a pergola covered dining area, small lawn and additional seating area. The garden is south facing and gets sun throughout the day, with plenty of trees to provide shade.
Our colourful home brings us joy every day and we can’t wait to Shawnee this joy with others!
Guest Access
The house sits across two floors with stairs to the upstairs. There is a step up to the front of the house and down into the back garden.
Notes
Due to the nature of the surfaces in the kitchen, they can’t have hot pans put on the, (they would melt!) and the lino floor in kitchen/dining area and hallway/downstairs WC can’t have resting water on it so spillages need to wiped up immediately. We have lots of houseplants who will appreciate a drink (we will share a watering schedule!)

Neighbourhood
We’re in an excellent spot for transport links into both local and central London attractions. There is a bus stop outside the house which runs throughout the day and night, with buses taking you to the South London hotspot of Brixton, and to the Horniman Museum and Dulwich Park and Picture Gallery, and we’re less than a 5 minute walk to Crofton Park station with trains regularly going into London Blackfriars and beyond. We are also a 15 minute walk to the Windrush line for fast trains into London Bridge and beyond.
In Crofton Park, around a 5 minute walk away you’ll find a plethora of independent cafes, restaurants and shops, and a small supermarket. Crofton Park is also home to the Rivoli ballroom, where you can go dancing at club nights hosted in this beautiful historic dancehall. We’re very close to Brockley which hosts a food market, and has many more independent shops, cafes and bars, as does Honor Oak which sits at the other side.
We are lucky to be surrounded by 3 beautiful parks, 2 of which have views all across the London skyline, and fantastic playgrounds. The Kent countryside is also accessible within an hour by car or train.
Getting to my home
We are minutes walk away from local buses and Crofton Park station, which has good links into Blackfriars from where you can get trains to Gatwick. The Gatwick express also runs into Victoria which is around a 30 minute train ride. The Elizabeth line is around a 30 minute rain ride, with access onwards to Heathrow.
Nearest airport
London City airport is less than an hour train ride or around 30 minute drive. Gatwick, around 20 miles, accessible by train or taxi. Heathrow and Luton airports are an 80 minute train ride.
