Neighbourhood

Kailua is a laid-back beach town on Oʻahu’s windward side, known for its beautiful beaches, relaxed local feel, and easy access to both nature and everyday conveniences. Our neighborhood is just minutes from Kailua Beach, while world-famous Lanikai Beach is only a few miles down the road. Kailua Town has a wonderful mix of local cafés, restaurants, boutiques, farmers markets, grocery stores, and family-friendly spots, making it easy to settle in and experience island life like a local. You can spend the morning at the beach, grab lunch in town, explore a nearby trail, or simply enjoy a slow afternoon in the neighborhood. For families, Kailua is especially lovely. The beaches are generally calm and inviting, there are plenty of parks and playgrounds nearby, and the overall pace is relaxed and easygoing. It’s also a great home base for exploring the rest of Oʻahu, including Honolulu, the North Shore, and the island’s many hiking trails and scenic drives. We love Kailua because it feels like a true community while still offering some of the most beautiful beaches in Hawaiʻi.

Getting Around

Getting around is easiest by rental car. We have a public bus line that is walking distance to our home.

Carly

We’re a family of three from Kailua, Hawaiʻi — Carly, Taylor, and our adventurous two-year-old son. We’re architects and designers who love good food, beautiful places, beaches, playgrounds, nature walks, and experiencing a destination more like locals than tourists. We’re fairly new to home exchanging and excited about the idea of connecting with other families around the world. In 2027, we’re especially hoping to spend time in New Zealand, Spain, and Italy. Our home in Kailua is our much-loved primary residence, just a few blocks from the beach. We’re open to reciprocal exchanges, including non-simultaneous exchanges when the timing works.
