General Overview
We live in a beautiful 82m² attic maisonette apartment with a stunning view over the rooftops of Leipzig’s vibrant Südvorstadt district. The apartment is part of a charming historic building, featuring art nouveau-style facade details and a gorgeous old staircase.
The Space
The apartment is split over two floors:
Downstairs: a spacious living room, a large eat-in kitchen (with a second couch), and a bathroom with bathtub/shower and toilet
Upstairs: a cozy bedroom and a second toilet
It’s fully equipped with a washing machine, dishwasher, and two refrigerators, offering everything you need for a comfortable stay. There's also lots of light, a large, comfy bed, and a warm, peaceful atmosphere.
We especially enjoy the calm view from our windows. It's a great place to relax and recharge.
Notes
Leipzig is one of the most inspiring and livable cities we know – a place where culture, creativity, and nature are all within easy reach, and where life still feels human in the best sense of the word. We’ve come to love its unique rhythm: vibrant yet calm, rich in history yet full of forward momentum, with space for both community and quiet.
The city is famously home to some of the great names in music – Bach, Mendelssohn, Schumann – and you can still feel their presence today. From choral concerts in St. Thomas Church to experimental opera and jazz in unexpected corners, music truly belongs to everyday life here. As musicians ourselves, that atmosphere means a lot to us.
But Leipzig is more than its musical heritage. It has a strong, ever-growing art scene, centered around places like the Spinnerei, a former cotton factory now full of galleries, studios, and creative spaces. There are always new exhibitions, performances, and open studios to discover – often just a bike ride away. The spirit of experimentation and cultural openness is something we value deeply.
What we also love about Leipzig is its everyday quality of life. It’s a city that invites you to slow down and breathe – affordable, walkable, with great cafés, local markets, and a strong sense of community. Even though it's evolving rapidly, it hasn't lost its warmth. People say hello on the street, and you get to know your favorite baker, your choir neighbors, or the barista around the corner.
And then there’s nature. Within minutes, you’re out of the city and into the trees – walking in the forest, swimming in clear lakes, or biking through the parklands that run like green arteries through the city.
Leipzig is full of contrasts – history and innovation, tradition and progress – and it has a way of welcoming people as they are. It’s not a place that demands you to fit in quickly, but rather one that invites you to grow into your own rhythm. We’d be happy to share our favorite corners, cafés, concert venues, or swimming spots!

Neighbourhood
Our home is located just around the corner from Karl-Liebknecht-Straße, or “KarLi,” as the locals affectionately call it – one of Leipzig’s most vibrant and characterful streets. It’s full of life: independent cafés, restaurants, cozy bars, small cinemas, and lots of creative shops and venues. It’s the kind of place where you can spontaneously join a poetry reading or stumble upon a pop-up concert while grabbing ice cream.
The surrounding neighborhood has a warm, open feel. A short stroll from our apartment leads to a small woodland area – quiet, green, and surprisingly untouched – where we often go for a walk before breakfast or to clear our heads in the late afternoon. It’s one of those places where the city suddenly falls away: birdsong, soft light, and the rhythm of your footsteps on the path.
Just beyond the trees is the "Fockeberg" – a small, tree-covered hill that’s easy to climb and rewards you with a wide, peaceful view over city. It’s a bit of a hidden gem. We love going up there with a cup of coffee or in the evening light.
On weekends, we often cycle out to "Cossi" lake. The ride itself is part of the joy: past old villas and meadows, through allotment gardens and quiet paths, until the city noise gives way to open skies and the cool, clear water waiting at the edge. These little escapes into nature are easy and spontaneous here – and they’ve become one of the things we cherish most about our life in this part of Leipzig.
Getting to my home
If you are coming from abroad then Leipzig is best accessible via Berlin, which is only a good hour away by train.
Nearest airport
Leipzig also has an airport, but mostly for cargo.
Getting Around
The public transportation system (tram, bus, S-Bahn) is very well developed. Various supermarkets, gyms and a city pool are within walking distance.

Julian and William
We are Julian and William, a German-Israeli couple in our 30s. Julian is a psychodynamic psychotherapist in private practice and sings in a chamber choir. William is a professional cellist and cello teacher. We love music, nature, meaningful conversations, and discovering the rhythms of life in different places.
We’re hoping to exchange homes with someone in Jaffa (Tel Aviv-Yafo) for end of December 2025 to end of February 2026, to experience the city through everyday life. (As William has family in Israel we are somewhat flexible with the dates.)
We also have a wonderful Maine Coon cat named Niko, who will be lovingly looked after at his “grandparents” while we’re away.
People Like Us is the world's most trusted home exchange community. We believe in sharing, trust, generosity, respect, communication, equality, cooperation, honesty, hospitality, friendship, flexibility and adventure. We take pride in our homes and we care about the environment in which we live: our village, city, country and our planet. We care about the ethos of home exchange and we do it because we love the experience and the friendships that it generates.
