Neighbourhood

Our home is situated in Hawke's Bay - Marewa, an Art Deco heritage preserved neighbourhood. Napier is a thriving seaside town with a population of 58,100. The Port of Napier welcomes thousands of passengers from the many cruise ships that visit from October to May. Blessed with a sunny, Mediterranean-style climate, Hawkes' Bay is one of New Zealand's warmest, driest regions with fabulous beaches, sheltered coastal plains and numerous long-established vineyards. With over 72 wineries the wines produced in Hawke's Bay are famous world wide. Our region is totally GM free & grow the country's largest quantity of stone fruit & apples. Weekend farmers Markets are fun & showcase the Hawke's Bay wonderful produce. The Hawke's Bay vineyards are all within a short distance of Napier and Hastings. Many are open to the public for wine tasting and many also operate cafes and restaurants in both indoor and outdoor settings and hold musical events. The region is especially known for its fine Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc varieties. There are 4 cinemas nearby (2 of which are the intimate Gold Class) The MTG (Museum, Theatre, Gallery) is an interesting place to visit featuring Maori art & hosting exhibitions, also the National Aquarium of New Zealand & a lovely Napier Municipal theatre which stages, live concerts, opera recitals, symphony orchestra and ballet. Shop in boutique stores,as well as antique shops, art galleries, and studios of potters, wood turners and craftsman. Many of Napier's house's built in the early 1930s reflect the style at the time Art Deco – as well as incorporating some unique Maori motifs. Walking Tours are conducted rain or shine every day (except Christmas Day) The Napier Art Deco festival takes place mid February every year, it is held over several days with usually 40,000 attendees. Planes, Trains,Vintage cars, dinners & dances & lots of fun, everybody dresses up in the period. A must see. Lovely deserted beaches not far away Ocean Beach & Cape Kidnappers with a Gannet colony, Interesting scenic drives with plenty of places to tantalize your taste buds. Lots of scenic walks on the specially created 150km walk & bike trails. Bike hire available. Hot Spa pools open all year.
