General Overview
Our house is a bright and spacious and convenient family home, with partial renovations in 2006 and 2021. The corner house has a Dutch 1930s character combined with modern conveniences and offers you enough living space for a family of up to 5 people. The house is located on a quiet street with one-way traffic in a pleasant residential area on the outskirts of the city of Utrecht.
The Space
The ground floor has a spacious living room (approx. 10x4m2) with an open connection to the kitchen (approx. 4x4m2) where we live most of the time! There is also a cozy garden at the rear (approximately 9x5m2).
The first floor has the master bedroom (double bed), second bedroom (with double sofa bed) and the (only) bathroom (toilet, shower, bathtub).
The second floor has a front bedroom (1 "futon" style double bed) in the attic area, also with a small workspace, and a rear bedroom with 1 single bed and plenty of books.
Guest Access
There is also a small office space on the first floor and a separate office space at the back of the house, both of which are NOT part of the space offered for home exchange.
The front door has a step and access to the upper floors is only via relatively steep stairs with a twist (standard in Dutch houses of the time). Not wheelchair accessible.
Notes
You have to bring your own waste to a container about 150 meters away. Compostable (green) waste and paper are collected regularly.
Separate wifi network for guests, fast internet connection.
No parties.
The stairs to the first floor are in the living room!

Neighbourhood
Our neighborhood is a pleasant and quiet neighborhood built in the 1930s: streets shaded by trees, characteristic brick houses (usually 2 stories high), children playing in the street, relatively much space for gardens (for a Dutch city district). There is a train station about 1.2 km, highway minutes away, small but convenient shopping center 1.2 km away.
Getting to my home
Our house is located on a quiet street with one-way traffic. Plane/train: Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, then train to Utrecht Overvecht station (change to the local train at Utrecht Central Station), then 15 minutes walk according to the instructions. Car: A27 exit 30 or 31, then follow further instructions.

Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, about 50 km away, 45 minutes by car or train.
Getting Around
Train station about 1.2 km (10-15 minutes walk), shops about 1.2 km (same). We have 2 no-frill bicycles available for trips to shops and to the center of Utrecht (about 3 km, 15 min) and for longer bike rides in nature.
Utrecht is the railway hub of the Netherlands. The train takes you quickly from the neighboring Utrecht Overvecht station to the center of Utrecht. From there there are fast connections to Amsterdam, Schiphol Airport, Amersfoort, Rotterdam, Arnhem, and other destinations in the Netherlands and Germany.
