General Overview
Views of town, sea and countryside. Loads of space - five bedrooms and four bathrooms over two levels mean you can really spread out here. Great, quiet neighbourhood close to shops, parks and beach.
There are also stunning bush walks nearby. Walk 18km through bush and over beaches or break it up into sections. Either way it's worth the effort.
The nearby beach (Ohope, five minutes' drive) has been voted NZ's best beach several times. It's safe for swimming (great for families), surfing, walking, sunbathing, you name it. There are a couple of cafes and a fantastic Mexican restaurant just a few feet from the beach.
Whakatane is the gateway to NZ's east coast beaches and an hour's drive from Tauranga, where there's great nightlife and shopping to be had.
It's a great town for walking but a car is available for wider exploration. Public transport is limited.
The Space
The front door opens into an spacious double-doored entranceway. Off this is a small storage cupboard, a large double bedroom and small bathroom with toilet and shower, and internal access to the double garage.
A staircase leads to the upper floor (which is also at ground level as the house is built into a bank). Here you'll find the light and spacious open plan living areas: a family room, kitchen, dining room and lounge. Through the lounge is a sunny and warm fully enclosed conservatory which also serves as a dining area. We practically live out here. This conservatory gets all-day sun and has amazing sea and town views. The sunsets from here are really beautiful.
The master bedroom with ensuite is off the family room and is very light and sunny. One full wall comprises windows and sliding doors, and there are picturesque rural views from here.
Also off the family room is a well-equipped office and laundry with a full bench, washing machine, tub and plenty of storage.
From the family room a hallway leads to two bathrooms and three bedrooms - one with a single bed, one with a king single and one with a queen. Two of the bedrooms also open onto the conservatory. The other looks over the front of the house and also has town and sea views.
Out the back of the house is a large grassy lawn (unfenced) and a sloping bank full of bush that lends itself to great adventures for kids. Our two built a hut down there and used to have great fun creating adventures.
The house is on a quiet cul-de-sac street and the neighbours are all very friendly.
