La Cachette, as our house is named, is situated in the medieval heart of the village. It is a stone-built terraced home, close to the Abbey of Caunes, which dates from the 9th century. Our neighbours are French, American and South African.
The Space
Two comfortable, spacious bedrooms, a fully stocked kitchen with dining table, a sitting room, and two bathrooms, one with a bath and the other with a shower. There are two terraces overlooking the walled garden. The house has wifi fibre connection, air conditioning and heating.

Three floors, linked by two short staircases. Not suitable for young children or people with walking difficulties.

Neighbourhood
This is Cathar country. Castles, fortified villages, mountains and vineyards, with a Mediterranean climate typical of the Midi. Good for walking, cycling
and swimming in summer.
Two UNESCO World Heritage Sites, Canal du Midi and the medieval La Cité of Carcassonne, are within a 30-minute drive. Roman sites, Cathar Castles, wine estates and country markets are easily reached, and the nearest beach is an hour away. The Spanish border is about an hour's drive.
Getting to my home
By air, to Toulouse, Carcassonne or Montpellier. airports. There are also trains to Carcassonne station.
This is wine country, and a car is advisable.

The village has a grocer, baker, pharmacy, cafe and doctor, all within walking distance. And several restaurants. Bikes are available. For longer journeys, a car is advisable.
