General Overview
We live on the first floor of a Victorian tenement flat near The Meadows, in Edinburgh. Our flat is within walking distance of Edinburgh’s city centre and main attractions, right next to a greengrocer and just a street away from a supermarket. There are also plenty of restaurants, a gluten-free bakery, cosy cafés for brunch, and friendly local pubs nearby. Walking from Waverly takes 20 minutes and you can get to our door using tram+bus from the Airport in 50 mins..
The Space
Our home has two double bedrooms, a children’s bedroom (with too many Legos), a spacious living room, a well-equipped kitchen, and two bathrooms with showers (one also has a bath). One of the double bedrooms, is our guest room and study, and includes a large TV. The flat has new double-glazed windows for peace and quiet, and a recently fitted boiler keeps it warm and cosy. We have two adult bikes, a bike for a 4-year-old, and a balance bike. We also have a travel cot, if needed.
Guest Access
We are on a first floor, so, unfortunately, the property is not ideal for people with mobility issues. The main door is locked and there is a communal space at the bottom of the stairs to park buggies and bikes.

Neighbourhood
Our neighbourhood is a lively, family-friendly place just south of Edinburgh’s city centre. It’s right next to The Meadows, close to the University of Edinburgh and the Futures Institute, and an easy walk to many Fringe Festival venues. Two fantastic playgrounds are a short walk away, and so is the National History Museum and Greyfriars Bobby statue. The area has great local shops, supermarkets, cosy cafés, and friendly pubs, all set among beautiful Victorian tenements. It’s the perfect base for exploring the city and enjoying Edinburgh’s green spaces and cultural life.
Getting to my home
Getting to our home is easy! From Edinburgh Airport, you can take the Airlink 100 bus or tram to the city centre (around 30 minutes), then a short taxi ride or a 20–25 minute bus journey will bring you to our flat. If you’re arriving by train at Waverley Station, it’s even simpler — we’re just a 10-minute taxi ride or about 20 minutes by bus or on foot, passing through The Meadows for a lovely city stroll.

Getting Around
Shops are just a stone’s throw from our home! There’s two local greengrocers right next door for fresh produce, and a supermarket just one street away for all your essentials. You’ll also find plenty of small independent shops, cafés, and bakeries within a few minutes’ walk. No need for a car — everything you need for day-to-day living is just a short, easy stroll from the front door.

We had such a wonderful week in Azul’s beautiful home, which is in a great location in Edinburgh.
From the very start, communication with Azul was easy—she’s so attentive, thoughtful and kind. Before our arrival, we even had a video call where she shared all the important details, which made us feel very welcome and well prepared.
The house itself is spacious, spotless, and really cozy with everything we could possibly need. We especially loved all the plants and enjoyed looking after them during our stay. Azul prepared her home with great care and attention, so we felt very comfortable from the moment we walked in. It was the perfect base for exploring the city.
A big thank you to Azul, Stuart, and Otis for making our stay in Edinburgh so special. It’s only a shame we didn’t get the chance to meet in person, but we truly hope they’ll visit us in Split one day—they would be most welcome!
We can’t recommend an exchange with this lovely family highly enough! Thank you one more time!
Azul and her family spent 10 days at my home, with a Globe. They were very nice and kind exchangers, and took good care of my home. We had good communication during the exchange. She also prepared my home for the next exchanger, as there was a back to back exchange afterwards. Last, but not least, they replaced 2 lamps that went out.
I would certainly recommend them as exchangers! Thank you Azul!
We had such a wonderful non-synchronous home exchange with Julija and her family! While we were enjoying our trip to Greece, they were fantastic guests at our home in Edinburgh.
From the very beginning, Julija was incredibly communicative and thoughtful. She kept us updated on their plans, and patiently waited for us to finalise our other arrangements and prepare our house manual. She checked in with us regularly and was always so appreciative of any help we could offer.
Not only were they a pleasure to communicate with, but they were also incredibly respectful of our home. They even took the time to water our plants, which we so appreciated! When we got back home, we were amazed to find the flat was absolutely spotless—it was honestly cleaner than when we had left it!
Julija and her family are the kind of guests you hope for on the platform. They are considerate, flexible, and left our home in pristine condition. This was our first time hosting, and we would happily exchange with them again. We highly recommend them to any other member of the community!
Thank you for having us, dear Azul! 💖
We had such an amazing home exchange with Eva through "people like us"! This was a non-synchronous exchange—while we were enjoying her home in Afitos, a lovely family from Croatia was staying at our place in Edinburgh. As this was our first time, Eva was truly a fantastic mentor, guiding us through everything.
Our arrival was seamless, and from the moment we walked in, we were so impressed. The photos on her PLU profile don't do the place justice—it was so much more comfortable and welcoming than we even expected. Her home was absolutely spotless and came fully equipped with everything we could possibly need, from plenty of towels to beach gear. Best of all, there were tons of games for children, and our 4-year-old was entertained the entire trip! The only small suggestion for future guests would be to add a large chopping knife to the kitchen, but we made do just fine! To top it off, she'd left us some water, a bottle of wine, and local leaflets when we arrived.
It was also a huge help when she asked if we could prepare her place for a back-to-back exchange right after our stay. We were more than happy to do it. She checked in with us every single day to make sure we were doing well, which was so thoughtful.
The double beds were super comfortable, and while the single beds had slightly firmer mattresses, they were still perfectly clean and comfortable. The air conditioning was a lifesaver!
Eva's recommendations for beaches, sightseeing, and restaurants were spot-on and made our trip so much better. We loved exploring the village of Afitos and found some awesome local spots just a short walk from her place. We highly recommend Ta Mpakaliarakia for the best seafood platter and Saboro for delicious local sausages and Greek dishes. For dessert, we fell in love with Fatsaki ice cream. They were incredibly honest, too—we accidentally dropped 5 euros, and they found it and gave it back to us the next day!
We also took some time to explore the area, visiting the incredible Petralona caves and the Byzantine Museum. Halkidiki is stunning, and the information Eva gave us about the three peninsulas was so useful. We even did a fantastic Toroneos Kassandra Cruise, which you can find out more about by emailing boat_adventure@yahoo.gr.
Eva's hospitality, flexibility, and all the little details made our first-ever home exchange an experience we'll never forget. Everything turned out perfectly, and we are so excited to organize our next adventure on the PLU platform again!
Thank you for your beautiful feed back, as well as for preparing my home for the next guests! Much appreciated! Hope we meet some day in Edinburgh!
