General Overview
We are lucky to live in a Unesco World Heritage listed national park of great biodiversity and beauty. Our neighbourhood is green and leafy. Our bright, airy and peaceful home in Blackheath has a cozy vibe and lots of space to spread out.
The Space
Our house sleeps several people, with three queen sized beds available, plus a big sofa bed. (There is an additional bedroom but It probably won't be in use). Ian has created a low maintenance but interesting garden outside. Inside, we have lots of books, puzzles, games, and original art. There's an art room upstairs and musical instruments and lots of (mostly traditional celtic) music sessions downstairs. TVs and computers too, of course!
Guest Access
The house is over two floors, with some stairs both inside and out. The upstairs shower is in the bath, so requires stepping in and out. While we are happy for small children to stay, we don't have a stair gate, cot, etc. If we did a car swap, there is a child seat in the car, which could stay or be removed.
Notes
The Blue Mountains are considered a gateway to the West; there are many interesting things to explore in that direction by car. We are a comfortable day trip distance from Sydney, approximately an hour 40 mins to the airport or the city centre.

Neighbourhood
We are on a quiet, friendly street, opposite an oval, playground and sports facilities. We are a short walk from the shops, cafes and restaurants of Blackheath village, the train station and beautiful bushland.
The villages of the Blue Mountains are visited and appreciated by people from all over the world. The street parallel to ours even has its own website overseas, celebrating it's autumn colours.
Getting to my home
We are less than a ten minute flat walk from the local train station of Blackheath. There is a Blue Mountains train line directly from Sydney's Central Station. Central also has a direct line in to the domestic and international terminals of Sydney's main airport.
If you are travelling by car, the Great Western Highway is one of the main routes out of Sydney and travels the whole length of the Blue Mountains. Our house is straightforward to find.
Nearest airport
Kingsford Smith International Airport Sydney (114km or 1hr 40 m away)
Getting Around
Two small supermarkets, places to eat, chemist, gym, pubs, antique and gift shops, taxis and trains are all within a 6-10 min walk. The play park, oval, courts, gym and dog park are opposite our house. There are many scenic bushwalks, possible to reach by foot or a short drive.
We are around a 12 minute drive from the large supermarkets and many attractions of Katoomba, including the Three Sisters and Scenic World. Five minutes further on and you'll reach the picturesque village of Leura. Bear in mind that highway traffic can build up at holiday times, when there are many visitors to the region.
Jenny and Ian’s home is a joy to be in. Lots of natural light, warm as toast and everything that we needed was there. Loved the underfloor bathroom heating! A bonus were the bower birds coming in to the back yard each morning. Beautiful mountains garden with hellebores, daphne’ and bulbs coming up.
An easy walk to the shops, and town and longer walks into the Blue Mountains national park was special. Blackheath is a special place and equally as beautiful in the winter as the summer. Well worth a visit. We hope to rerun in the near future!
It was a delight to swap with Jenny and Ian, all of our online, texts and phone calls were timely, easy, friendly and open.
Our home was left clean and tidy and hopefully enjoyed for their holiday away. No hesitation to welcome back anytime.
Swapping the south coast for the Blue Mountains was an excellent idea! Thank you
Fran and Nick's house is easy to find and felt cosy, friendly and welcoming. We experienced it in both good and bad weather and it was nice in both! There's lots of natural light and all the space is so well utilised. There's lots of nice flow from inside to out and we enjoyed the chickens and garden birds.
Everything was functional and easy to use and our teenager liked having his own space in the annexe. Being a short walk from a beautiful beach was lovely. The region itself is a great pleasure to drive through and so many interesting places, such as Kiama and Berry, are very close by. We had a wonderful stay and hope to visit again.
Fran is very warm, friendly and down to earth and was a delight to swap with. Her confident, adaptable and positive approach seems ideally suited to the house swapping journey!

Jenny
We are a family of three: Jenny, a ex children's bookseller, Ian, part time gardener and horticulturist, and our wonderfully neurodivergent 14 year old son Liam, who loves drama and singing and is writing his first novel.
We have recently become homeschoolers and are new to the world of house exchanging. But we are excited to have the chance to travel more flexibly, as opportunities come up. We are especially drawn to celtic places such as Scotland, Ireland and Wales. We would enjoy seeing more of Europe and have family in Turkey and Spain. But we are happy to consider any options; after all, your favourite place in the world may be one you haven't visited yet!
People Like Us is the world's most trusted home exchange community. We believe in sharing, trust, generosity, respect, communication, equality, cooperation, honesty, hospitality, friendship, flexibility and adventure. We take pride in our homes and we care about the environment in which we live: our village, city, country and our planet. We care about the ethos of home exchange and we do it because we love the experience and the friendships that it generates.
