General overview

Inspired by the great architect Frank Lloyd Wright’s “Falling Water” house- this architectural masterpiece even has its own waterfall when it rains! The house is designed to merge outside and inside - flowing living and entertaining areas stepped down to match the natural rainforest landscape outside. Built with passive solar design principles, the house is always cool in summer. Our home is spread over 6 levels with 5 decks but with never more than 8 stairs at a time. Exposed natural timbers – redwood, radiata, cypress pine – along two fireplaces and soaring cathedral ceilings, large windows, ensuring abundant natural light and creating a wonderful sense of space and privacy for serene lifestyle living that feels a million miles from civilisation. Best of all, the house is wrapped around a little valley with a creek in a large rainforest block so the neighbours houses are barely visible through the trees, 60 meters away! This hidden valley even has a little creek which boasts a waterfall after the rain. Enjoy all this from the comfort of an open log fire or cooking up snags on the gas BBQs on one of our several entertaining decks. We are doing some updating - and not everything is finished :-( Our home has 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, 2 studies and several flowing living/entertaining/dining rooms and decks. Pool; off street parking; two fireplaces.

The space

All bedrooms have BIR, 1 bathroom has separate shower & bath the other only has a shower. At the moment it is set up as 1 queen & 3 single bedrooms but we can organise extra beds if needed. We have separate formal dining & lounge rooms as well as a sunroom (rumpus room for the kids) Split level home with wild rainforest back garden, pool with large deck with Webber gas BBQs. We have several bikes for adults and kids, table tennis & a trampoline. Our kitchen has Smeg oven, microwave and warmer, Miele cooktop and dishwasher, The master bathroom has original brown 1970s floor and wall tiles, with some modern updates such as new toilets and a vanity. We have a home gym with rowing machine, bench press and fairly comprehensive weights machine. (Please note: We are renovating things and so you will see some of our photos are older. For example, the pool will have lovely grass beside it by Christmas!) We're looking to be swapping for at least between 21 Dec and 6 Jan 2020, but can extend that on either side.

Guest access

There are stairs throughout the house so it is not wheel-chair friendly sorry. If you have young kids – we only have one toddler-stair gate.

Notes

Both Lane Cove National Park and Ku-ring-gai National park (Garigal National Park) are only 10 minutes away. They offer wildflower walks, canoe hire (suitable for kiddies), walking and cycling tracks, and many other outdoor activities. There is also inland rivers with boat hire, camping and fishing. We have a selection of 6 push bikes for you. Our house is perfectly located for exploring other attractions of the area. Do a day trip to the dramatic cliff-scapes of the Blue Mountains Wilderness area or venture inland to the Hunter Valley to enjoy wine-tasting in our finest wine-growing area. And yet, we’re on the picturesque edge of the great city of Sydney – with all the things a great city has to offer, along with the world’s greatest harbour crossed by the grand Sydney Harbour Bridge and flanked by the soaring and optimistic Sydney Opera House. Taronga Zoo, Bondi/Manly/Palm Beaches - all within 30 mins drive from here. We have a car available and would like to organise car swap. We have a dog and pet mice and we'd be happy to care for your pets and plants on our swap!

Neighbourhood

Very leafy family friendly suburb on the Upper North Shore. This was Sydney’s grandest district in the 1900’s and there are many stately mansions nearby. A little cooler than the rest of Sydney it has a mountain feel, with huge native gum trees along with formal gardens of azaleas and liquid-ambers. Easy access to the City and beaches.

Getting around

We are 800 meter walk to Turramurra railway station. Trains run every 5-15 minutes for the 35 min trip to the city. But there is a large shopping centre nearby at Hornsby. The closest beaches (Northern Beaches) are easily accessible by bus or by car (about 30 min drive).
