General Overview

A modern Lanna-style 2 bedroom, 2 story house that’s equal parts cozy, stylish, peaceful. We’ve found our retreat here in Lanna Thara Village, and it’s the perfect blend of modern comfort and chill vibes. We are in the heart of a Mu Baan which is the perfect antidote to a day in the buzzing streets of Old Town and the café-lined wonderful chaos of Nimmanhaemin. In just 15–20 minutes, you can swap the noise of the city for birdsong, a little garden, and delightful quiet.

The Space

The House It’s a detached house built in the modern Lanna style, with two bedrooms and three bathrooms. The master bedroom has a king-sized bed and its own en-suite. Our son’s room has a double bed, a single bed, desk, and so many toys we question our sanity. Open-Plan Living: The living area is open and bright for most of the day (but just enough shade at times to help keep the house cool), with comfy seating, big windows, and a stupidly-sized TV for those much-needed family movie moments. The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you need, whether you’re in the mood to cook, order in, or just reheat leftovers from the night market. • Fully Equipped Kitchen: Whether you’re whipping up a feast with ingredients from a local market or just making your morning coffee, our kitchen has everything you need—plus space to dance while your coffee pours. Warning, the kitchen is bright red. We don't know why. We've leaned into it. • The Garden & Outdoor Space: We’ve got a little private garden filled with plants and a covered patio that’s perfect for a lazy morning coffee or unwinding in the evening with a drink. We have large splash pool for our son when he just wants to cool off or hang in the back yard while we have a chilled wine. We have some small sports activities like totem tennis etc. It’s quiet and peaceful—exactly what you want after a day of exploring temples, markets, or hiking the trails. • Alright, let’s talk about Mu Baan living in Chiang Mai. It's effectively a gated community - community-centred, safe, and quiet (something not to be underestimated in Thailand where noise abounds!) We’ve got a great community in here with some small playgrounds for the little ones and older kids riding bikes, kicking a ball or constructing something crazy around the streets. • The houses are a blend of modern design with traditional Thai touches • We have security posted at the gates 24/7 that makes us feel lovely and safe – and our Lazada deliveries also:) • There is a Mu Baan swimming pool you can use for free as well as being across the road from another Mu Baan with an absolutely giant pool you can use for 100THB if you want some variety. Why You’ll Love It This house is our escape—a place to relax, recharge, and enjoy all the different aspects we love about living in Chiang Mai. So, you’re looking for a cozy, peaceful home base while you’re here, this could be it! Mae Baan We have a wonderful helper who comes 2 x / week to clean, wash and iron for you.

Neighbourhood

We’re tucked away just south of the city in Hang Dong which is a fantastic area for families. It’s a little slower-paced than the city centre but still close enough that you can hop in the car or on a bike and be in the thick of it in no time. Locally, there’s tonnes of activities for kids like the Grand Canyon Water Park, Bloom Space, Nic’s Restaurant and Playground; walking distance to café’s like Danissa and a quick ride or drive to places like Hannah Hanh, Din Café. There’s a go-kart track, Muay Thai gyms, Top Kids Club etc. There’s loads of fantastic, beautiful restaurants nearby like Ozark and Little Glasshouse Café. Hang Dong is also home to cultural landmarks such as Wat Ton Kwen (Wat Intharawat), a stunning wooden temple built between 1857 and 1858 and the beautiful Royal Park Rajapruek. For families who love the outdoors, Hang Dong means you’re close to Doi Suthep-Pui National Park, where you can hike, picnic, or visit waterfalls. Weekend trips to places like Grand Canyon Water Park, the Royal Park Rajapruek, or Ob Khan National Park are just a short drive away. It’s easy to balance city adventures with nature escapes. Chiang Mai 15-20 mins away is the centre of Chiang Mai. This is where old-world charm and new-school cool meet for coffee (or maybe a bowl of Khao Soi). As Thailand’s second-largest city, it’s got layers—ancient temples, modern art galleries, and a food scene that’ll make you rethink everything you thought you knew about noodles. Hit the ancient walled city, where centuries-old temples rub shoulders with hip cafes and vibrant street art. Make the pilgrimage up to Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, perched on a mountain with views so stunning they might just convert you to sunrise hikes. Or, if you’re more of a thrill-seeker, zip-line through the jungle canopy or take a cooking class to perfect your Pad Thai game. And the food? Oh, the food. Chiang Mai’s culinary scene is a love letter to flavour. The night markets are where it all comes alive—street eats, handmade crafts, and a buzz of energy you won’t want to miss. Add in an incredible live music scene and close proximity to places like Pai and Chiang Rai – plus a one hour flight to Bangkok, you can see why we’re addicted!
