General Overview

Anchorage is situated directly on the south west coastal path so it is perfect for wonderful walks. We offer a self contained east wing of the house, which was originally built for the admiralty as part of the coastguard station. It has a lot of character since it dates back to 1896. One of the best things staying at Little Anchorage, apart from the views of course, is its location. Not only are you right beside the sea, but you feel as though you have a countryside retreat whilst still being just a few minutes walk to the esplanade and the charming Sidmouth town centre.

Neighbourhood

Sidmouth sits in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is famous for many things, including its royal connections and for being a major winner in Britain in Bloom, but this seaside town has so much more to offer than flowers and fossils. Life in this town never stops, there is a folk festival, a literary festival, a sea festival, a walking festival and a science festival. If you are sporty then you are spoilt for choice too, so many activities to choose from. August is regatta time and the prestigious Red Arrows help add to the celebrations. There are wonderful gardens to explore in the town and a thriving theatre and museum. Even an observatory. There are Sunday evening concerts and even a Boxing Day swim for the brave. If you have children or grandchildren, the beach is a must, and the sand is great for building sandcastles, (when the tide is out). Or take them sailing or shing, or even simply walk along the promenade and enjoy an ice cream. - Buzzy restaurants: dukes, pines, blinis, neils, the loft - Cool bars: dukes, blues , the marine - Cozy cafés: coffee number one, clock tower cafe, mocha, selleys - Retail therapy: plenty - Bit of culture: museum, theatre, cinema - Walks in the park: coastal walks, river walks - Spot of exercise: plenty of great walks, swimming pool, gym, tennis courts - Day tripping: lots of fabulous towns along the coast to visit - lyme regis, beer, budleigh salterton, etc.
